Gerard Piqué has been hogging the spotlight ever since fans noticed him in the stands while his ex-girlfriend, Shakira, was performing at the FIFA World Cup final. This has made many fans wonder about his current girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti. Clara and Gerard were first linked in 2022, a few months after he broke up with Shakira. As per reports, they first crossed paths when Chia began working for the former footballer’s event production company, Kosmos.
At the time, Clara was still a student. This hints at her and Gerard having a huge age gap. Well, Clara was 23 years old when she met Gerard, while the former footballer was 35 years old. This means that they have a 12-year age difference.
While having a 12-year age gap might seem like it's not that big of a deal to some people, it can drastically skew the power dynamic in the relationship. In Gerard and Clara’s case, the latter is only a few years into adulthood and is still learning about the world, while Gerard has spent the past 12 years solidifying his reputation in the world of football.
Even though Gerard is a decade older than Clara, it seems that he thoroughly enjoys being with someone as young as her. A source close to the couple claimed that Gerard had even been telling his friends that he “feels younger” now that he is with Clara. The former Barcelona star’s comment can be seen as shade towards Shakira, who is 49 years old at present and is technically old enough to be Clara’s mom.
For those who don't know, Gerard and Clara were spotted out together for the first time at Summerfest Cerdanya. Photos of the two that widely circulated on social media showed them standing in the crowd, with Gerard's arm around Clara as they shared a kiss. Soon after this, the duo was seen at a wedding in Catalonia, where they appeared lovey-dovey as they arrived arm-in-arm.
Since then, Clara and Gerard have made several appearances, with the football star deciding to make their romance official in January 2023. Gerard took to his Instagram to post a sweet selfie where he and Clara were cuddling.
While he did not specifically confirm their relationship and kept the caption empty, fans were convinced that they were dating. Notably, this post came just days after his ex-girlfriend, Shakira, released BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53, where she shaded him for cheating on her with Clara.
Shakira revealed that Gerard Piqué’s infidelity had made her stronger
It is worth mentioning that shortly after Gerard went Instagram official with Clara, Shakira shared a video of herself lip syncing to the lyrics, “Las mujeres yo na llorna las mujeres bailan merengue.” This directly translates to “Women don't cry anymore, women dance merengue!”
However, the song BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 53’s real kicker was the line that dissed them directly: "Good luck with my so-called replacement /...I'm worth two 22-year-olds/ You traded in a Ferrari for a Twingo/ You traded in a Rolex for a Casio."
Later, during an interview, Shakira revealed that Gerard allegedly cheating on her had made her stronger. She admitted that she had always been emotionally dependent on men, but now she is “sufficient on my own.”
