Love is the most important element in a relationship. A couple can only sustain the hurdles and face all the ups and downs of a relationship only if there is love in it. But what if the love becomes possessiveness? It becomes difficult to survive in that relationship as it gradually starts showing signs of cracks in it and fades its sheen. One of the most sought-after couples of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan too had a bitter experience in their relationship. Gauri Khan had met Shah Rukh Khan when he was a nobody. He was struggling to make a foothold in Bollywood industry, it was her love and constant support that he is the most successful star of the glamour world. Shah Rukh had made us believe in true love in the 90s with his iconic films and whenever we spot our favourite star with his off-screen ladylove, Gauri, our heart skips a beat. It’s been more than 25 years of their marriage and one look at this lovely couple makes us fall in love with them. But their adorable bond is not built in a day as they too had their share of ups and downs, bitter memories and troubles in their marriage.
In an old interview, where Shah Rukh and Gauri had graced the talk show, Rendezvous With Simi Garewal in the year 1997, the couple had talked about the initial days of their relationship. When Gauri was asked whether Shah Rukh has always been protective, she had replied that his protectiveness was more of possessiveness. She had stated, “It was possessiveness. It has turned to protectiveness. He was disgustingly possessive, he was sick. He wouldn’t let me wear a white shirt because he thought that it was transparent. It was a kink in the mind, I think.”
Shah Rukh had agreed that it was not right on his part to be so possessive about her and had stated that he was quite insecure about their relationship. He had further revealed that it was his lack of ownership on Gauri which had made him overprotective towards her. He had also agreed that in order to control her and prove his ownership on her, he had turned very cheap. When asked how Gauri had dealt with such a possessive lover, she had stated, “I kicked him and left him for very long. He had to learn because I said, ‘Okay, bye. Coming back to their love story, the 'King Khan' of Bollywood had skipped a heartbeat when he had first seen Gauri in 1984 at a friend’s party. Gauri was initially not very interested in Shah Rukh but soon had fallen for his charm. Tagged as one of the best couples of Bollywood, Shah Rukh and Gauri had their share of struggles initially when Gauri’s parents didn’t approve of their marriage.
We all know, how films play an important role in Shah Rukh’s life, in many media interactions, the king Khan had gone on records and stated that if ever he is asked to make a choice between his career and Gauri, he'll leave films for her. On March 27, 2019, Shah Rukh had celebrated the World Theatre Day, and as we all know he had begun his acting journey from theatre, it holds a huge part in his success. The actor had taken to his Instagram handle and had posted a lovable selfie with the director of his life and his wife, Gauri. Alongside it, he had written, “Being with you is like being on Stage. There’s so much light, I can’t see anything else. In an interview with the IANS, Gauri had shared the impacts of being a superstar's wife. She had said, "I think because of who he (Shah Rukh) is, there are a lot of positives. I only take the positives and I don't take the negatives. Even if there are some negatives, I have to brush it aside and the reason is very simple... because he helped me while launching Gauri Khan Designs, so, he is very important to me. Jokes apart, he has done a lot for our family. He is a great father and husband. I have to say that there are only positives being his wife and I would not like to share anything negative."
