In a piece of heartbreaking news, it was revealed that Dolly Parton has passed away. The country music star took her last breath at the age of 80. The news was first revealed by her nephew, Brian Seaver, with a video posted on August 25, 2026, on Instagram. Now, as everyone comes to terms with her loss, here's a look back at when Dolly confessed to the “little ways” in which she would keep her romance alive with her husband, Carl Thomas Dean.

Dolly Parton revealed the secret to keeping her romance alive with her husband

While she was alive, Dolly Parton never shied away from opening up about how much she loved her husband, Carl Thomas Dean. For those unaware, the duo was married for nearly 60 years. During an interview with US Weekly, when asked about how she kept the romance alive between them after being together for so many years, she said, “You find little ways.” Giving an example, she added:

“Like last year on his birthday, I dressed up in my Playboy bunny suit, made him breakfast and [ran] around in that for a little while.”

Dolly claimed that most people can keep their marriage going strong as long as they are willing to make a little effort. She said, “Some people just get slouching and lazy and about stuff that ain't important, like leaving the toilet seat up. And if that's the worst thing you've got to worry about, you're already in trouble.”

Dolly Parton and Carl Thomas Dean got married in 1966. The songstress claimed that “feeding him good” was always helpful for keeping her husband around, although for the most part, it was just about them having a “good time” together. According to Dolly, she and Carl were “the perfect partners.” Listing several reasons why she believed that, the singer said that they both had a great sense of humor.

They would always solve problems and get through any situation together that was thrown at them while making a joke and not letting things get too heavy. Overall, they respected each other, and Dolly claimed that they really “lucked up” by getting together.

Speaking about how they would celebrate their decades-long love story on Valentine's Day, Dolly said that she would wear “some little fun” outfit and shower her husband with presents. In her words:

“I always wear some heart-shaped something, and I always get him several Valentine's cards. You know, cause when you start looking for cards, you find so many and you want ‘em all.”

Dolly would also share sweetheart candies with him. She claimed that as the day went on, she would throw him a different one.

He said that, as her head of security for over two decades, he had imagined the heaviness of this moment, but hadn't felt it until he was filming the video.

Brian said that their family and the team who have been entrusted with her legacy will make sure that Dolly’s spirit lives with them forever. He ended the statement by saying:

“Dolly called me and said she wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton because after a life of wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest. Rest in peace, Aunt Dolly - Aunt, Granny, Gigi. May God bless Dolly Parton, and may God bless you all. She will always love you.”
