Arjun Kapoor's mother, Mona Shourie had passed away days before his debut film, Ishaqzaade had got released. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Arjun Kapoor remembered his mother as he completed 10 years in the film industry and said that his mother would have been very happy to see his debut film had she been alive. He added:

“I think woh pehli picture dekh leti toh khus ho jati. Bas utna hi kafi tha unke liye. She had sacrificed so much to put me in a position where I can be independent. I think my mother would be proud of the fact that I am so independent that I can afford to not go to work for a day and that is very empowering. She would have been happy to know that at 36 I have sorted a lot of my demons out. But, I think for her Ishaqzaade would have been enough just to know that she has brought me up well and I will be okay.”

Arjun Kapoor was not launched by his producer-father, Boney Kapoor, but he managed to make an identity of his own. The actor revealed that he had stopped taking money from his father after becoming an actor and added that he considers it to be his biggest achievement. Talking about the same, he said:

“I have never taken anything from my father since I have become an actor. Even before that, it was very limited to what was the necessities. My mother took care of us very well. She brought us up very well. My father as present as he could be was. It’s a very special thing for me to be today in a position where I can wake up and say ‘no’ to a film."

“It is a very simple thing, when I came to the industry I had lost an x amount of weight, and I was looking a certain way. Then I had put on weight, I was not looking my best, I was aware of it. But I was not able to lose it the way I had lost it earlier and I was working. Thinking I will do it when I get time. I didn’t get it, some of the movies didn’t work. I am an obese kid who is trying to be fit. So I will always have certain issues that need to catch up. My t-shirt also gets tight someday, if I don’t work out my weight increases. If I eat anything wrong for two-three days. But I put in double efforts. “
