Ariana Grande is currently hogging the limelight due to her appearance in the music video for her latest single, Hate That I Made You Love Me. This track serves as the lead promotional single for Ariana’s upcoming 12-track studio album, titled Petal. However, her extra-thin appearance left people concerned about her health. Ariana had a long break from singing due to her work commitments in the acting industry. Amid this, the Wicked fame’s past reaction to body shaming has gone viral.
During a 2024 conversation with a French journalist, Sally, Ariana Grande was asked about how she dealt with beauty standards and the criticism around her appearance. In response, Ariana got a bit emotional and tried to hold back before opening up about her experiences. The Wicked star shared that as she has been in front of the public since she was 16, there has been constant criticism around how she looked. Ariana explained that sometimes she felt like an experimental specimen under a microscope. She was quoted as saying:
"My goodness, I'm not gonna… I've been kind of doing this in front of the public and kind of been, you know, a specimen in a petri dish, really, since I was 16 or 17. I've heard every version of it, of what's wrong with me, and then you fix it, and then it's wrong for different reasons."

During the same conversation, Ariana explained that the constant criticism about a person’s appearance can hurt anyone, not just celebrities. She mentioned that even if the criticism is coming from a family member, it can harm a person’s mental health. These kinds of body-shaming comments can make anyone uncomfortable and feel horrible. In her words:
"Even just the simplest thing, your appearance, you know, you're young, and you're hearing all kinds of things, it's hard to protect yourself from that noise. Even if you go to Thanksgiving dinner and someone's granny says, 'Oh, my God, you look skinnier, what happened?' or 'You look heavier, what happened?' It's like, that is something that is uncomfortable and horrible no matter where it's happening, no matter the scale it's happening on."

Back in 2023, Ariana made a TikTok video to address the speculation surrounding her health and body. In the clip, the Wicked actress urged people to stop commenting on others’ bodies. She explained that people need to be gentler and less comfortable about commenting on others’ bodies. She said:
"I just wanted to address your concerns about my body and talk a little bit about what it means to a person with a body and to be seen … to be paid this close attention to. I think we should be gentler and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies, no matter what."

Shortly after Ariana’s music video, Hate That I Made You Love Me, surfaced online, fans began pointing out her extra-thin appearance. She was seen in a yellow outfit in the music video and sparked health concerns due to her appearance. A user wrote, "What has she done to her face?" Another user commented, "Sorry, but she looks sick (no shade), she's stunning and all of that, but she looks very skinny, and we can see her bones." A third user penned, "I don’t body shame, but this is not healthy. I pray she heals from whatever she is battling."
