The great name, Ambani needs no introduction, and many do not see their members beyond such a great surname. However, what people fail to see is the space beyond it, where there exist loving bonds and eternal relationships, which were simply prey to the cupid of destiny. Anil Ambani and his lady love, Tina Ambani fall perfectly into this category. While they are a part of one of the richest families in India, there was a time when Tina and Anil were young sweethearts in love, who fought all hindrances to call it forever!

The love story of the then-Tina Munim and Anil Ambani did not start off with anything from star-crossed lovers or love at first sight. On the contrary, the duo met each other as perfect strangers at a wedding. Recalling later, Anil mentioned that the only odd thing about Tina from the other women at the wedding was the fact that she was the only one who wore a black-hued saree, which set her distinct from all the other choices of outfits worn by the guests. With no communication passed or any game of instincts at work, the duo crossed paths as any other strangers meeting each other.
After this not-worth-mentioning meeting of the duo, destiny conspired them to reunite again in Philadelphia where they were formally introduced for the first time through common friends, and Anil immediately had asked out Tina for a casual date with him. However, since she had been a reputed Bollywood actress by then and had been privy to such advances by other men and fellow actors, she had politely declined the offer.
Well, it seems their chance for a date together did not end there. A few years later, the couple again got introduced to one another, but this time from the side of Tina. Her nephew had kept on insisting her to meet a fellow Gujarati guy, who was his dear friend. Going through a rough phase in her career at that time, Tina had refused to meet him initially. However, when she did agree to the same, keeping in mind the good name of her cousin, she thereafter continued to postpone their date frequently.
However, since destiny would have it otherwise, Tina finally ended up meeting Anil on their said date. And indeed, it turned out to be a turning point in both of their lives, as Tina was simply awestruck with Anil’s humility and humble nature. Years later, in an interview with Simi Garewal, Tina acknowledged her initial feelings on meeting Anil, and called him quite upfront and genuine. She also felt a sense of traditional connection with him, since both were fellow Gujratis. However, for Anil, their first date churned altogether different feelings, as he could not have ever imagined somebody from the film industry to be so authentic and real. In his words:
“When you meet someone from the film fraternity, you have certain notions about them. I have known many people from that industry, but she is just different. The attraction came about only after I met her.”

Well, life is not a bed of roses, and Anil Ambani and Tina Ambani faced the same pretty soon after their confession of love. While both of them found their perfect match in the other, there was stiff pressure from the Ambani family as they got to know about Anil’s affair with a girl from the film industry. They opposed such a union, since they had certain biased notions about people from the same industry. While Anil tried hard to make his family understand that Tina was completely different from the others, the Ambanis were adamant. When Anil told Tina about the situation, the latter completely understood the scenario without a word, and the duo broke apart for four years.
As mature adults, while the couple had decided to quit their relationship, it was, however not as easy as being told. As the duo ceased communication for more than four years, it was difficult for both of them to move on in their lives. While Anil was completely heartbroken, Tina too was sheerly pained and decided to channel her grief through work. She thereafter finished her pending films and flew off to the USA to pursue a course in interior designing.
However, that was surely not the end for the couple, as it was just a phone call that changed their situation. It happened so that when Anil got to know about a major earthquake that hit Los Angeles at that time, he grew concerned about Tina, who too was living there. He immediately picked up his phone and called her to ask about her safety. However, as soon as he got to hear that she was perfectly fine and unharmed, he immediately disconnected the call, leaving Tina heartbroken and shocked. Recalling that moment, she mentioned once in an interview:
“That was the time I was so upset and crying away. And, I said why this guy called me, came into my life, and revived all the things? Obviously, he cared that’s why he wanted to know whether I am ok or not. But, he did not even complete the conversation. The least he could do is complete the conversation.”
In the meantime, the Ambanis tried their level best to find a suitable arranged match for their son, Anil Ambani who had been keeping a heartbroken state already. However, he too, stayed adamant in refusing all of the proposals that came his way, hinting his love was only reserved for Tina. And finally, seeing his state of mind and frequent supplications, the Ambanis finally said yes to the union of Anil and Tina. Soon enough, Anil called up Tina again to deliver the happy news. However, it seemed that Tina was unsure about it all and again kept postponing her dates to come back to India. After many failed attempts, Anil gave a final word where he said that if she did not come back this time, he would never call her again. This move surely melted Tina’s heart and at once, she decided to return to India the very next day. Recalling the moment, Tina once said:
“That was when I realised that something is going on and I shouldn't miss this. Now, I should go back, and that following week, I came back.”
As hurriedly as Tina Ambani returned to India, she was shocked to find Anil waiting at her doorstep the very next day in order to meet her parents and hand them a completely charted wedding plan. However, for those who must be wondering whether the duo skipped the part of a proposal, you will be stunned to know about their funny proposal. Anil gathered courage and straightaway went to her parents and asked them for their daughter’s hand. In his words:
“I went to her house in Khar. Tina's sister and brother-in-law were there. They both were quite shocked to see me because they didn't know what was going on (in Mumbai). Her brother-in-law went inside to tell her mother. She was shocked to see me. I said that you love your daughter, Tina, very much, and she said yes, absolutely. I said that if that is the case, then you can keep her here otherwise, I very much wanted to marry her.”
After so many ups, downs and cease of communication between the duo, their love story got sealed forever with their wedding on February 2, 1991. The duo honoured and celebrated their common Gujarati roots and arranged for a lavish traditional wedding. However, for Tina, life changed over completely post-marriage. Like every other woman getting anxious right at the threshold of a new journey together, Tina, too had her own apprehensions about stepping into one of the most prestigious industrial families in India. However, all of it seized once she witnessed how warmly she was welcomed into the family by the Ambanis. However, while her personal life attained fulfilment post-marriage, but at the same time, she also bid adieu to the glamour world, right at the peak of her successful film career.
The madly-in-love duo, Tina Ambani and Anil Ambani became one of the most talked-about couples within a short duration of their marriage. People were astonished to see a lovely girl from the film fraternity to have settled in so seamlessly within the framework of India's biggest business families, the Ambanis. The couple, soon after, got promoted as parents when they welcomed their son, Jai Anmol in December 1991. The family got completed when they welcomed their second son, Jai Anshul on September 1995. Fast forward to today, Tina and Anil live a happy, contented life along with their kids, daughter-in-law and their extended family.
