Yes, true love stories never grow old, and Bollywood's Shahenshah, Amitabh Bachchan's tale of love with wife, Jaya Bachchan is a perfect example of it. The couple had exchanged the wedding vows on June 3, 1973, and their love still remains the same. Their love story started with just a glimpse when Jaya had first seen the six-feet-tall, Amitabh at Pune Film Institute. But it wasn't just a simple crush but rather destiny was writing the biggest love story of all time. And soon their paths crossed again on the sets of film Guddi (1971), wherein, Jaya felt the first brush of love. And while Jaya was already in love, Amitabh didn't saw her the same way until they worked again for the film, Ek Nazar (1972). And rest as, we say, is history!
Jaya has been a guiding light, who always supported her husband, Amitabh in his every endeavour. The superstar is soon going to make a comeback on the small screen with his popular show, Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 11. Recently, in an interview with the IANS, Amitabh talked about his loyal fan at home, who never mises any episode of it. The actor shared, "Everybody in my family watches 'KBC', but Jaya watches the show regularly. No matter what work she has, she will sit in front of the TV when the show starts. He further added, "My family loves playing KBC at home, sometimes Shweta plays, sometimes Aishwarya. We all sit together and discuss the questions and answers. However, as per the rules of Sony channel, my family cannot participate in the game show. So, I abide by their rules and keep them away from the show. Even Aaradhya has started watching the show now. She asks me questions about it and also tries to answer the questions when we all sit together and play the quiz at home."
Amitabh, who like journaling, had shared once in his blog that his father, the late Harivansh Rai Bachchan had told him to get married if he wanted to go out on a holiday. He had written, "I lived on the 7th Road of this society in a rented house. The marriage had been decided among us, nothing to be exaggerated or celebrated with any aplomb. Just the two families and done. Off to London, my first trip ever and hers too. Zanjeer a success and a promise that if it did well we would all - a gang of our friends - would go on a holiday to London!"
He had further written, "Seeking or rather informing parents that we were a group of friends going to England, who all are going came the query from Babuji, names disclosed, Jaya is also going with you. You both are alone. Yes. If you have to go marry and go. Ok. Pandit and family informed. Next day all set, flight at night, marriage to finish before the flight. I dress up in formal marriage Indian, get into my car and want to drive to Malabar Hill where her friends lived and where the ceremony was to be done .. my driver Nagesh, pushes me out and insist he would drive me to the wedding. The substitute for the tradition horse. Off I went, wedding over in a few hours. Done, Mr and Mrs proclaimed. over!"
In a 2015 interview, Amitabh had shared his views on love. He had said, "As busy as we get, we need to be reminded that we – my wife Jaya and I – are still sweethearts. In that sense, it makes me stop and realise how wonderful she makes me feel. Jaya is a very spontaneous person. Not at all like me. And it’s just very fortunate for me that she’s from the same profession as me and so she understands. She was always familiar with the environment I was in. She knows what the film industry is all about, so in fact, it’s a boon to have her."
He had further added, “I don’t know, of course, what the situation would have been had I married a lady outside my profession. You say that marriages in this industry don’t last. But with all due apologies and all due respect to others, how do you put me in the same category? In any marriage, there are ups and downs and areas where disagreements take place but that’s all part of it. Jaya is extremely open and very straight. Sometimes embarrassingly straight but that’s how her nature is. I’ve never tried to disturb that quality of hers and she’s not disturbed my quality of being myself.
