Akanksha Chamola Reveals Real Reason Of Divorce From Gaurav, 'Main Bani Hi Nehi Hu Iss Cheez...'

Gaurav Khanna, popularly known as 'Anuj Kapadia' of Anupamaa, is currently making headlines for his estranged wife's shocking revelation. Recently, in June 2026, Akanksha revealed on Lock Upp 2 that she and Gaurav have been living separately for a year and are headed for divorce. Amid the intense scrutiny and unfounded rumours surrounding the duo, she broke her silence about what led to the fallout of their 10-year marriage and exactly when she felt it was time for them to move their separate ways.

Akanksha Chamola revealed what led to her divorce from Gaurav Khanna

When Akansha Chamola announced her split from Gaurav Khanna in the inaugural episode of Lock Upp 2, she admitted it would be news even to their parents. In the next episode, she finally opened up about the actual reason for taking the big step. Akanksha told the fellow contestants that she made it clear that she lacked a maternal instinct right from the beginning of her marriage. However, she was open to seeing whether her feelings would change over time, but they did not. Her estranged husband was fine with her decision to not have kids; however, his mindset has since changed. Akansha Chamola said:

"Jab hum shaadi mein thhe, mera maternal instinct kabhi nahi tha. But I was open to discovering it, and it was never shut down. But gradually I realised that I am not meant for it and he was okay with it. But I guess, in time, that shifted. Now, he wants to have kids, and I can't give him that."

Akanksha recalled telling Gaurav that she won't ever be able to embrace motherhood, and when she realised that he was no longer on the same page as her, they had a discussion regarding it. At that time, she told him that he could leave her if he felt that having kids was a priority for him. Akanksha admits that, in most cases, people get married to expand their families, and she understands where Gaurav is coming from. Her exact words were:

"Nahi hein mere mein [motherly] instinct, woh maine bohot pehle bol diya tha. Jab mujhe realise ho gaya ki main bani hi nahi hu iss chees ke liye maine tabhi hi bol diya tha ki main nahi karne waali hoon. So we had a discussion where I told him if you want to leave me then leave me, fair enough. Log shaadi isliye karte hain. Lets be honest 99 percent want to get married because you want to have kids and family aagey badhana hain warna aap kyu shaadi karoge."

Akanksha revealed that she and Gaurav were still taking their time off and seeing if their relationship could be mended. However, after his breakdown on Bigg Boss 19 over wanting kids, she realised that he was hurting from inside. Both were struggling in the marriage, with her feeling guilty over not being able to give Gaurav what he wanted and him suppressing his desire for fatherhood. Thus, they decided to part ways and find their own happiness. Akanksha shared:

"He is not wrong on his part. And then Bigg Boss happened, and I realised that isko bohot zyaada hain aur main nahi kar paa rahi hoon."

Akanksha clarified that the decision to separate was taken by her and Gaurav mutually, and there was no bitterness between them. They will continue to love and respect each other, but not as romantic partners, as they no longer share the couple-like feeling. She recalled how their families suggested they spend some time apart before making the decision, which really cleared their minds. She said that after living separately for a year, they realised they "both want different things in life."
