For some time now, reports are rife that Aishwarya's wedding outfit, designed by Neeta Lulla, was worth Rs. 75 lakhs.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Neeta Lulla cleared the air around the reports claiming that Aishwarya Rai's wedding outfit was worth Rs. 75 lakhs and stated that these are nothing but 'afwaah'. When Neeta Lulla was asked to comment on the report of Aishwarya donning an outfit worth Rs 75 lakhs on her wedding, the designer laughed and said:
“Really? You fell for this afwaah?”
She further added that Aishwarya donned a minimalistic Kanjeevaram saree, which can't cost a crore or 75 lakhs. Requesting everyone to do the maths, Neeta stated that Aishwarya's basic saree was complemented by a well-fitted embroidered blouse and temple jewellery. She also asked if people were calculating the amount, including her temple jewellery, and added:
“You do your maths. I mean a Kanjivaram saree, how much would it cost? It can’t cost like a crore or Rs 75 lakhs, can it? A basic saree with a well-cut, well-fitted embroidered zardozi blouse and jewellery. I mean are you counting the whole thing with the jewellery, I don’t know where the maths is.”
For the unversed, Aishwarya Rai wore a traditional yellow and golden Kanjeevaram saree, featuring Swarovski crystals and intricate threadwork embroidery. She opted for a braided hairdo and accessorised her outfit with exquisite gold temple jewellery. In the same interview, when Neeta was asked to reveal the cost of Aishwarya’s wedding outfit, she politely said:
“I don’t remember.”

She mentioned how the then-bride-to-be, Aishwarya had started planning her outfit while she was shooting the wedding scene of her film, Jodhaa Akbar. Neeta recalled how Aishwarya was very particular about her wedding look as she was dressed in the character of ‘Jodha’, and had mentioned that she did not want something similar, but instead an outfit that would glorify the cultures and traditions of her Tulu roots.
