This is because after Laci had gone missing, Amber who was aged 27 back then had told shocking details to the media.
Scott Peterson's ex-mistress had recognised Peterson and told the media that she had an affair with Peterson. He had claimed that Amber was a widower. Frey reportedly worked with police authorities, and Peterson did not know. Frey had testified for many days and then had opened up about the affair.
It was in August 2024 that Scott Peterson had spoken for the first time in a filmed clip for Peacock’s Face to Face. He had shared of having sex outside his marriage but did not admit to murdering Laci Peterson. Scott had told the prosecution related to allegations that he had killed Laci. He did admit to not wanting a child and wanted to go out of the marriage without any spousal or child support. In his words:
"That is so offensive and so disgusting. I certainly regret cheating on Laci, absolutely. It was about a childish lack of self-esteem, selfish me travelling somewhere, lonely that night because I wasn’t at home. Someone makes you feel good because they want to have sex with you.”
Amber Frey has the limelight again after Scott Peterson: The New Evidence started streaming. Amber came into the limelight after she came forward, claiming that she was Peterson's mistress. At the time, she was a single mother working as a massage therapist. She had soon become the central point of discussion in Peterson's trial. Amber Frey continued to be in the limelight and had told her part of the story. She was seen in the August 2024 Netflix documentary called American Murder: Laci Peterson where the events were re-examined. Frey had recollected:
"When I first met Scott Peterson, I was living in Madera, Rolling Hills. I had just graduated from massage school, and my really good friend at the time told me about this guy that she had met. She said he was funny, easy to talk to, he was nice looking, and he was looking to meet ‘the one.’ As a single mom, that was something I was open to and wanted in my life.”
Amber Frey had revealed that she had first met Scott Peterson due to her bestie, Shawn Sibley. She mentioned in her 2005 book called Itness: For the Prosecution of Scott Peterson. In the first chapter of her memoir, she revealed meeting Frey at the Elephant Bar in Fresno, Calif. Amber, a massage therapist, remembered how she was a single mother of a daughter and was looking to settle down. She was under the innocent impression that Peterson also wanted the same and thought they were in a committed relationship.
Amber and Peterson had first met at the bar, and they had planned to go for dinner. Peterson had asked Frey if they could head to his hotel room so that he could change. He had agreed and was also impressed by how confident he looked. Scott had shared that she was nervous of meeting him but he was smiling and looked relieved.
It was on December 9, 2002, that Peterson had told Frey that he wanted to tell her something urgent. He had admitted to lying about being married and that he had actually lost his wife. Frey revealed in her Netflix documentary that, "With all his emotions, I thought, ‘I don’t want to pry; he will share what he feels comfortable with. He was sorry he had lied to me and hoped that it hadn’t changed anything.” A friend of Amber had sent her a newspaper clipping of Peterson's wife being missing, and it had left her all shocked. Amber then went to the cops to give evidence that she and Peterson had an affair.
