Savannah Guthrie and her family members were asked to pay a huge amount in exchange for Nancy's safe return. Has she already paid the amount?
Nancy Guthrie has been abducted since January 31, 2026. She was last seen during the family dinner of the same day, following which, there were no traces of her. It was reported that Nancy was kidnapped or abducted while she was asleep. A search mission has been going on, which has now expanded with new leads, and the details about the new leads were kept private to preserve the integrity of this criminal investigation.
While there's no suspect in this case as of now, two ransom notes were discovered, wherein a huge chunk of money was demanded in Bitcoin for Nancy's safe return. The deadline has recently passed, but has Savannah Guthrie already paid the amount? Let's have a look!
The ransom notes were shared with local Arizona television stations KOLD and KGUN, along with TMZ, and it was demanded that USD 4 million in Bitcoin should be paid in exchange for Nancy Guthrie's safe return to her home. The deadline of the transaction was kept for February 5, and if not met, an increased amount of USD 6 million in Bitcoin was demanded with a deadline of February 9, 2026, 5 PM (ET).
As the deadline passed, people were wondering if the Guthrie family actually paid the amount to the alleged kidnapper. Well, to mention, recently, a report by PEOPLE revealed that, as per a statement that they got after the deadline, the FBI said they are unaware whether the demand in the ransom note was met or if the Guthries contacted the kidnappers. FBI Phoenix Spokesperson Connor Hagan said in the statement:
"The FBI is not aware of any continued communication between the Guthrie family and suspected kidnappers. For more than a week, FBI agents, analysts, and professional staff have worked around the clock to reunite Nancy Guthrie with her family. Additional personnel from FBI field offices across the nation continue to deploy to Tucson. We are currently operating a 24-hour command post that includes crisis management experts, analytic support, and investigative teams. But we still need the public's help."
It was revealed that the ransom note had traces of a few high-tech skills that the kidnapper/kidnappers had. As per the authorities, they used an encrypted email with a hidden IP address, which keeps their identity hidden. Authorities said that it is actually a very high-tech skill. Apart from that, the kidnapper/kidnappers asked for a huge amount in Bitcoin so that the chances of investigators tracking them lessen, given that the money transaction wouldn't happen, and so the tracking would not take place instantly.
On the other hand, authorities said that kidnappers had limited interaction with the family, so the less the communcation happen, the chances of them being hidden increase. To mention, the investigation has been on for over a week now, but no suspect in this case has been found yet. As per a post from the Pima County Department, new leads are available, so the search mission will expand, along with a continuation of the investigation into the Guthrie households.
Annie and Tommaso Cioni's home was investigated, which is 10 minutes away from Nancy's home. Tommaso was the one to see Nancy for the last time, and he also got a ransom note. It was journalist Ashleigh Banfield who claimed that the latter may be a person of interest in the case, but the investigators haven't tagged anyone as a prime suspect in this case, as of now.
