According to reports, Matt graduated from the United States Naval Academy. Eventually, he began pursuing an MBA at Harvard Business School. According to reports, Sharyn Alfonsi and Matt Eby first met in Washington, D.C. The meeting was initially arranged by their mutual friend when Sharyn was in the initial days of her journalism career. She was trying to make a place for herself in broadcast news at that time. Interestingly, it was a contrast to Matt's disciplined military and academic background. Gradually, they bonded over shared interests, adventurous lifestyle, and strong family values. The relationship became serious when Sharyn's career began to grow, and she became a household name with her investigative reporting.

They initially lived in New York City to support Sharyn's growing career at CBS News and 60 Minutes. Sharyn Alfonsi has made headlines after a major public fallout with CBS News leadership. According to reports, the network has decided not to renew her contract for 60 Minutes. The decision was made after tensions increased between the parties over her controversial report on difficult prison conditions in El Salvador. It began when a segment by Sharyn about Venezuelan men deported to El Salvador's CECOT prison was suddenly taken off air in 2025.

As CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss mentioned, the segment was ready for broadcast. In fact, it needed more interviews and political seamless. However, the journalist disagreed and sent and allegedly email calling the incident "political" to her colleagues. Now, Sharyn claims that the headship allowed her contract to expire without clear communication.

"It sends a chilling message to the entire newsroom. I think it was a deliberate choice to penalize a journalist for refusing to sanitize accurate reporting. I'm not resigning. If they want me gone because I did my job, they'll have to fire me."
