Babita Singh Reporting is currently the talk of the town. While the storyline garnered a lot of attention, it was Nimisha Sajayan’s performance as 'ASI Babita Singh' that stole the spotlight. For the unversed, Babita Singh Reporting premiered on Amazon Prime Video on August 29, 2026. Alongside Nimisha, the film also stars Anshuman Pushkar and Barun Sobti in the lead roles. Amid this, people have grown curious to know whether 'Babita Singh' exists in real life.

Does 'Babita Singh' exist in real life? Here's what we know

Nimisha Sajayan portrayed a plus-size cop who gets suspended from her police job in Bhopal. During this phase, 'Baby' goes back to her hometown, Rewa. She meets her childhood friend, 'Bansi'. A day later, she learns that 'Bansi' died mysteriously. While the police investigated 'Bansi's' death and arrested a drug addict because 'Bansi's' blood was found on his shirt, 'Baby' is not entirely convinced by the established theory. Thus, she begins investigating on her own.

Nimisha Sajayan’s performance was on point. Her dedication as a cop was top-level. But we want to reveal that while 'Babita Singh' seemed very real, she doesn’t exist in real-life. The narrative of Babita Singh Reporting is purely fictional. Director Ambiecka Pandit got candid about the character, 'Baby', a.k.a. 'Babita Singh'. She shared that while 'Baby' wants to be a real cop, the patriarchal system stops her. In an interview with The Hindu, Nimisha stated that she has seen a lot of women who have shades of 'Babita'. She was quoted as saying:

"I have seen lots of women who have shades of Babita, including me. I was just exploring her different shades from Day 1. That was an interesting process; to constantly discover her."

Plotline of Babita Singh Reporting (Spoiler ahead)

Babita Singh Reporting revolves around 'Baby', a female cop who gets suspended from her police job in Bhopal. During this time, she returns to her hometown, Rewa. Her relationship with her husband, 'Sharad', is tumultuous. 'Baby' gets underestimated both at work and at home. Time and again, 'Sharad' insults 'Baby' for being overweight.

While 'Baby' returns to Rewa to enjoy her sister-in-law’s baby shower, she soon gets entangled with the death mystery of her childhood friend, 'Bansi'. While the authorities have arrested a drug addict, 'Babita' is not convinced and believes that the police did not properly investigate the case. Thus, she secretly starts investigating the case.

As 'Babita' goes deeper into the case, she learns that 'Bansi' had met his childhood crush, 'Archana', before his death and had also given her a large amount of money because she was being abused by her husband, 'Inspector Bharadwaj', over a dowry dispute. In fact, 'Bansi' was facing turmoil in his personal life, involving his wife and his brother.

However, 'Baby' becomes distant from her husband in this process. She also hides her secret investigation from him. But 'Sharad' learns about it and gets angry because she lies to him about what she is doing and puts herself in danger. 'Sharad' believes that 'Baby' is neglecting him and his family and thus tells her to quit her police job.

But 'Baby' refuses to do so and is adamant about finding the root cause behind 'Bansi's' death. After a chain of events, 'Babita' learns that 'Bansi' died by suicide. As she examines the CCTV footage, she learns that 'Bansi' was being threatened and blackmailed. 'Bansi' was extremely troubled by his family problems and the threats against him, and these things pushed him into severe depression.
