The university confirmed the GM’s leave on Monday, July 27, 2026, but they refrained from providing any more specifics in their statement. So, as the curiosity towards the reason behind their decision continues to grow, the focus has also shifted to his personal life, especially his wife, Millie Lombardi.
According to reports, Michael Lombardi shares a healthy relationship with his wife, Millie Lombardi. Ever since they tied the knot, the duo have been relishing each other's company. Millie is not only a huge supporter of Michael, but she is also a mom to their two sons, Matt and Mick. Similar to their father, they are involved in the world of football.
As per reports, Matt has served as a wide receivers’ coach for the Raiders. On the other hand, Millie and Michael's other son, Mike, has also served as the senior offensive assistant for the 49ers. Millie and Michael also share 4 grandsons and 1 granddaughter.
However, it is worth mentioning that nothing much is known about Millie’s personal background. Despite being the wife of one of the most well-known faces in football, she has remained out of the spotlight and media glare.
Back on January 18, 2020, the former Eagles consultant had shown his love for his wife via a post on X (formerly Twitter). In the post, he jokingly compared Millie’s birthday celebration with the Christian carnival celebration, Mardi Gras. He shared a snap of Millie with her grandson and wrote in the caption, “Millie’s birthday is celebrated like Mardi Gras…and so we begin, love you.” This highlighted that Michael had a special plan to celebrate his wife's special day.
This is not the first time that the three-time Super Bowl winner had mentioned his wife on his social media. On December 20, 2020, Michael gave Millie a big applause by taking to his Instagram account. He shared pictures of their pets sitting beside a New England Patriots t-shirt. He wrote in the caption, “Found a new Pat fans in my house. Great job, Millie.” From his caption, it is clear to see that Michael always appreciates Millie’s efforts and how she is the biggest supporter of his professional journey.
On October 24, 2024, their chemistry as a couple came to light when ESPN uploaded a video on their YouTube channel. In the video, Michael can be seen opening up about his wife’s infamous phone call during the Pat McAfee Show. For the unversed, during the show, when the GM was busy with a discussion, Millie suddenly called him, making for a cute moment.
Later, on Valentine's Day in 2023, Michael shared an adorable family photo in tribute to his wife. He captioned the post, “The best valentines of all.” With each passing year, Michael and Millie’s bond continues to grow stronger, even though the latter chooses to keep her personal life private.
Michael Lombardi has been at UNC since 2024. He is a longtime collaborator of UNC head coach Bill Belichick. As we mentioned, the University has already announced that the general manager has been out on leave without mentioning the reason. Their statement can be read as:
"The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has placed Michael Lombardi, general manager for the Carolina football program, on paid administrative leave, effective immediately. As is standard procedure with personnel matters, leadership, staff, and student-athletes are prohibited from addressing this topic further, and it has no reflection on the merits."
