Ahead of polling in Tamil Nadu, Vijay Thalapathy declared his assets as part of his nomination. Here's what we know about his whopping net worth.
Vijay Thalapathy is all set to contest elections in Tamil Nadu after quitting acting. For the unversed, the upcoming film, Jana Nayagan, will mark the end of Vijay’s over three-decade-long acting career. Recently, Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), announced the names of candidates. According to reports, the entire Tamil Nadu Assembly, consisting of 234 constituencies, will vote in a single phase on April 23, 2026. Ahead of the poll day, the south sensation declared his assets as part of his nomination.
According to Vijay’s official affidavit, his total net worth is Rs. 404.58 crore. Multiple Tamil publications cited the declaration and revealed that his income for 2024–25 is Rs. 184 crore. The actor-turned-politician has Rs. 2 lakh in cash, and his bank balance is worth Rs. 320 crore. His children, a son, Jason Sanjay S, and a daughter, Divya Saasha, have a total of around Rs. 4 lakhs in their bank accounts. His estranged wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, has a whopping bank balance of Rs. 10.43 crore.
According to the official declaration, Vijay Thalapathy has reserved Rs. 25 crore fixed deposit in Indian Bank, Rs. 40 crore fixed deposit at Axis Bank, Rs. 20 crore fixed deposit in HDFC Bank and 391 sovereigns of gold jewellery for his estranged wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam. The actor-turned-politician has given loans worth above Rs. 76 crore to individuals and companies, including his father, Rs. 3.02 crore, his mom, Rs. 87 lakh, his son, Rs. 8.78 lakh, his daughter, Rs. 4.6 lakh and his estranged wife, Rs. 12.60 crore. Vijay’s affidavit stated that Sangeetha Sornalingam has movable assets of around Rs. 15.51 crore.
Vijay’s declaration stated that he has a Toyota Lexus worth Rs. 3 crore, a TVS XL Super worth Rs. 67,000. His impressive car collection also includes 2 BMWs, a Toyota Vellfire and a Maruti Swift. As per the declaration, the total value of his cars is worth Rs. 7.45 crore.
The actor-turned-politician owns ten properties. Vijay has one house in Neelankarai, another one in Urur, and another property in Mylapore. He has two properties each in Saligramam and Sholinganallur. According to his declaration, Vijay owns one property each in Pallipattu, Padur, and Korattur.
Vijay Thalapathy’s wife, Sangeetha, filed for divorce from him on February 27, 2026. According to The Indian Express, Sangeetha has filed for divorce from Vijay at the Chengalpattu Family Court. Her petition was filed under Section (1)(a), (b), (d) and Sections 36 & 37 of the Special Marriage Act, 1954. The reason behind filing for divorce was shocking as Sangeetha claimed that Vijay Thalapathy had an extramarital affair with an actress. In her divorce plea, Sangeetha stated that she discovered an alleged affair involving Vijay and a female actress in April 2021. She claimed that despite repeated assurances from her husband, he continued the illicit relationship. The petition can be read as:
"The respondent continued travelling abroad and attending public events with the said actress. The actress regularly posted photographs of these outings on social media. The respondent neither denied nor objected to these posts, thereby tacitly endorsing them. These posts widely circulated, causing repeated humiliation to the petitioner and the children."
