It's the 8th week, Top Chef season 23's 36 hours of Restaurant Wars proved to be one of the best eliminators. Sieger Bayer is back, but someone had to go home for mid-core dish.
One of the much-loved American TV series, Top Chef, is in its season 23, which reached its 8th week already. The show began with 15 contestants, and right now there are only 6 left. Last week, there was a double elimination.
It so happened that Jennifer Lee Jackson was sent to a medical emergency due to her facial paralysis, and it was her partner, Justin, who was also a contestant, left to be by her side. This left a total of 7 contestants on the show, and this week, an already-eliminated chef bounced back, with another going home for a midcore dish, as this week is being called one of the best eliminators in Top Chef's history.
Spoilers Ahead!
It was a 36-hour restaurant challenge, and there was no Quickfire round this week. As there were 7 people, two teams could not be created, which left Sieger Bayer to bounce back so that two teams could be equally divided. Two teams of this week's challenge were Carolina Queen, who were elevated for Southern comfort food, and Team Tierra Reina, who were up for Latin-Carolina fusion. For this challenge, the teams had to make a three-course menu, but each course came with two options, which they got to choose.
For Carolina Queen, the first course consisted of two options of She-crab cake with bisque or cheese puff with pimento cheese and country ham while in the second course, they had to choose between red rice with seafood bearnaise or crispy pork belly with collard greens, corn bread and pickles and finally for the third course they had the options of PB & J with peanut panna cotta, compressed fruits and Cheerwine jelly or ruby sweet potato baklava with maple bourbon syrup.
Speaking of Latin-Carolina fusion, their first course's option was Snapper aguachile verde or sweet potato tostada, while they had to choose between Pescado a la veracruzana or Tongue & cheek barbacoa with collard greens and a salsa duo, for the second course, and for the third course, the options were Mole cremeux with benne seed cracker or arroz con leche with Cheerwine gel.
The identical twin brothers, Brandon Dearden and Jonathan Dearden, were with the team Latin-Carolina, and they were the line cooks. Well, to speak of who won, it was the team Carolina Queen, who won the Week 8 challenge, leading Latin-Carolina to lose. Now, speaking of elimination, it was Brandon Dearden, who had to say goodbye to the show, given that he made a midcore dish, which didn't go along with the outstanding results that were gotten through the challenge from the other members.
This made Brandon the one to bid goodbye. Generally, to fix the odd number in the group, Seiger was invited to be a part. The last person who gets eliminated gets the invite, so technically it should have gone to Justin, but as he chose to stay with his partners, Sieger, who was eliminated in week 6, was invited.
What do you think about this week's challenge?
