Tom Holland's spider brooch took over 350 hours to make

At the Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiere, Tom Holland caught everyone's attention as he matched his wife, Zendaya's energy and donned a magnificent gemstone spider on his tie. The brooch immediately started making rounds on the internet, with fans looking for details about the masterpiece.

The bespoke brooch was created by British jeweler Pragnell and took over 350 hours to make. The design was inspired by a vintage family brooch, while its moving legs took cues from 'Spider-Man's' 'Iron Spider' suit. What further made the brooch special was that every tiny component was shaped, assembled, and polished by hand. According to Pragnell:

"The Pragnell Spider features a Fancy Vivid blue-green diamond in its head, its color formed by natural radiation deep within the Earth, echoing the radioactive bite that transformed Peter Parker."

Apart from its exceptional design and mechanics, the spider brooch also features some rare gems. Its head features a fancy vivid blue-green diamond, naturally coloured by radiation deep inside the Earth. Meanwhile, the brooch's body is made from a 5.114-carat untreated black opal, finished with diamond eyes, articulated legs and ruby fangs.

Pragnell shared details behind the creation and revealed that the brooch's colors were chosen as a nod to the Marvel Universe. Every aspect of the brooch was thought of and well researched before being put together into what the world witnessed. And fun fact? The brooch is functional and can walk on its own legs. Pragnell was quoted as saying:

"A 5.114ct untreated Lightning Ridge black opal forms the abdomen, alive with flashes of blue, green, crimson and orange that mirror the vivid world of Marvel. Diamond-set eyes and articulated legs, finished with kite-shaped ruby fangs, complete this unique design."

How much did Tom Holland's spider brooch cost?

The beautifully sculpted brooch was proof of the artistic abilities of Pragnell. However, over the years, such statement pieces have become more than just accessories; in Tom Holland's brooch's case, it was more than a playful nod to 'Peter Parker'. It also tapped into the growing phenomenon of method dressing, where actors use fashion to extend a film's story beyond the screen.

Talking about the brooch's cost, it's hard to put a price tag on such a beautiful craft. However, the price is estimated to be in hundreds of thousands of dollars, given how it features some rare gemstones and complex craftsmanship. While no official price has been shared for the immaculate piece, this just might be the ultimate 'Spider-Man' collectible.

Talking about the film's collection, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has crossed an estimated USD 120+ million worldwide on its opening days following its release. The current trajectory indicates that the film might reach the USD 800 million mark by the weekend. The film grossed over Rs. 72.44 crores (USD 7.57 million) in India on Day 1, beating Avengers: Endgame to score the biggest non-Indian opening day ever.
