Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleSharon Horgan is hogging the limelight for opening up about her personal life. The Bad Sisters creator claimed that she's feeling ‘fucked’ after finding herself single in her 50s. For those unaware, Sharon was previously married to a businessman named Jeremy Rainbird. The duo was together from 2005 to 2019, until they divorced six years ago. The former couple shares two daughters, Amer and Sadhbh.
Despite her sentiments about being single in her 50s, Sharon had previously admitted that she felt ‘angry’ that she didn't get a divorce sooner. Here's why!
Sharon Horgan and Jeremy Rainbird were together for 14 years. Since then, the Irish actress has never shied away from openly speaking about her divorce. Sharon confessed that one of her only regrets about her marriage was that the divorce did not happen sooner. She claimed that she had stuck it out with her ex-husband for a long time despite realizing that their relationship was not working.
During an appearance on the How to Fail podcast, Sharon told host Elizabeth Day that having her two children and working closely together led her to make her marriage work. But at one point it became clear to her that it wasn't right for either of them. She said:
“And I feel like it's weirdly connected to confidence as well, or also that thing of what you should do versus what your body tells you and your brain tells you that you ought to do. It's like the Catastrophe story. We got together, we had a baby, and we made it work for a long time. We had another baby, and he was involved in the business. But there came a point where it was so clear that it wasn't right for either of us.”
Sharon Horgan believed that her reason for delaying the divorce might also have had a little bit to do with the fact that she's Catholic. She said that the idea of not getting a divorce and just staying in the marriage was already ingrained in her. This is why it was so much harder for her to go through with it.
Speaking about how she felt after the divorce, Sharon admitted that she had never been happier. However, she was also ‘angry’ with herself for not ending the marriage sooner. In her words:
“It's an odd one because I've never been happier, but I'm still angry at myself - not really for the failure of the marriage, but for not figuring it out earlier. It's so destructive. You get one life, and that's an awful lot of time to spend on something that's not working.”
Sharon Horgan said that she did not know what kind of conditioning had truly stopped her from going ahead with her instinct and what would have been good for everyone. But even though her marriage failed, Sharon felt that it had a positive impact on her life. She said:
“Yes, it failed, but it had such a positive impact on my life. The stuff that's less fun is the business of divorce. It's debilitating, time-consuming, money-draining. It's not fun for anyone.”
During a recent interview with the Irish Times, Sharon Horgan said that when you are still in your 50s and haven't found the person to spend your life with, “you're kind of fucked.” She admitted that she had given herself a fake ticking clock that put a lot of pressure on her. Now that she is single at this age, Sharon wonders what kind of a partner she will attract. She questioned whether it will be just “the weirdos and freaks and the institutionally single bachelors and the old men.”
