Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders is the sequel to 2020 Honey Trehan's movie. The lead actors, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Chitrangada Singh, carry forward this slow-cooking crime thriller. The movie brings back the famous police inspector, Jatil Yadav, who is on his toes to investigate a new case that exposes the rot in society.
Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders is streaming on Netflix. The film follows the case of Inspector 'Jatil Yadav', played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. He investigated yet another ruthless crime scene, which revolved around a mass murder of a wealthy family, who are owners of a big media company. The film shows how the fourth pillar of society shuts down truth. Just like the first part, the second instalment also stays true to the plot and doesn't divert.
The film opens with 'Meera Bansal,' played by Chitrangada Singh, meditating when the harsh crows' cawing breaks the silence. However, what followed it was a deeply unsettling scene. The next instantly shows the mood of the film with unnerving clarity. Followed by Inspector 'Jatil Yadav', who met the family, and the members were introduced with a narration.
The film revolves around the mass murders of the Bansal family. However, the movie misleads the viewers into believing and guessing the killer. However, once the puzzle is solved, the film reveals the culprit's identity. 'Meera Bansal', played by Chitrangadha Singh, is the face of her family. The film is set up in Uttar Pradesh and shows the brutal massacre of the influential Bansal family. However, it looks like an open-and-shut case, but the killer is soon identified by the eyewitness, 'Meera Bansal'. However, 'Jatil Yadav' believes that there is more to the story than it is being portrayed. As pressure increases to close the case, 'Jatil Yadav' quietly investigates the case, convinced that there is a layer of lies.
The film's plot revolves around the protagonists. 'Jatil Yadav's' personal life is underdeveloped, with Illa Arun playing his mother, and 'Radha' played by Radhika Apte. However, the film lacks in showing his personal life and Radhika Apte's role is forgettable in the film. As soon as the film was released on OTT, netizens showered love on the crime thriller. One user wrote, "Verdict: A smart, unsettling murder mystery that respects the audience’s intelligence. If you love layered thrillers with substance, #RaatAkeliHaiTheBansalMurders is absolutely unmissable. A worthy sequel and a franchise that’s only getting better."
A second user penned, "What starts as a seemingly routine murder investigation soon descends into a chilling exploration of power, privilege, and moral decay. Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders smartly moves beyond the usual who-done-it and dives deep into the far more unsettling why-done-it — and that’s where it truly excels. #NawazuddinSiddiqui once again proves why he is the soul of this franchise. As Inspector Jatil Yadav, his performance is restrained, controlled, and deeply impactful. Every pause, every glance adds weight to the noir atmosphere. His dialogue — “Aap logon ko apna kaam sahi na karne par neend aati hai, mujhe nahi” — perfectly captures the moral spine of the character."
