However, the cricketer has been facing trouble after he was arrested. A woman accused him of having sexual relations with her and raping her after promising to marry her.
Who is Abhishek Porel's girlfriend?
The 23-year-old Abhishek Porel has been in the news due to his arrest. Talking about his girlfriend, he has kept his personal life highly private. So far, he had neither publicaly confirmed being in a relationship nor he had named a girlfriend. But his personal life made headlines when a police case has been filed, wherein a medical student filed a complaint against him.
Why Abhishek Porel has been arrested?
A young medical student had accused Abhishek Porel of getting into a sexual relationship with her after promising to marry her. She even accused him of blackmailing her by threatening to leak her objectionable photos. A case was filed against Abhishek under 19 sections, which is non-bailable offences. Hooghly Superintendent said:
"There was a case lodged against him and a court order to arrest him. He was arrested late last night. He will be produced in court today."
Earlier, during the court hearing in Calcutta High Court, the Magra Police station was asked to seize all electronic devices of Abhishek including his phone. They were also asked to submit a report of detailing the steps taken by them. The FIR against Abhishek stated that he had illegally confined the complainant, and he denied her food and deliberately kept her isolated. The FIR can be read as:
"Abishek illegally confined the complainant. He denied her food and deliberately kept her isolated. As a result… the complainant became physically weak and was unable to walk properly."
The woman also claimed that she was in a relationship with Abhishek and their families knew about their relationships and were ready for their marraige. However, things took an ugly turn after she found out that Abhishek was involved in relationship with other women, which led to their breakup. After the matter reached court, they directed the police to arrest Abhishek as part of the investigation.
The news has been circulating on Reddit for over a month. Netizens expressed their opinion on the matter. One user called it a 'misused law' and wrote, "Most misused law in india, might take the verdict with a grain of salt." Another penned, "I fail to see how an adult woman deciding to trust a 23 year old cricketer and moving in with him on the basis of 'promise' of marriage (whatever that means) leads to a non bailable offence?"
A third user commented, "Delhi Capitals should keep an eye on their players. They are getting targeted. It was Shaw, Vipraj and Rizvi before and now it is Porel. The players themselves should stay away from these things. Their career could be ended just like Yash Dayal." A fourth one wrote, "India is the only country in the world which calls fake promises of marriage as "Rape", not fraud or decieving , 3 years of relationship is now "rape". Truly a Vishwaguru country."
