Nancy Guthrie has been missing for over 10 days. Now, there have been reports of activity in the Bitcoin account mentioned in the original alleged ransom note.
Nancy Guthrie has been missing for over a week now. While there is no trace of her or any concrete evidence about her whereabouts, it's safe to say that the process has been excruciating for the family. Amid that, TMZ founder, Harvey Levin reported activity on the Bitcoin account mentioned in the original alleged ransom note in the Nancy Guthrie case. Here's everything you need to know about the latest updates in the missing case.
TMZ was among the publications to have received the note after the 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie was reported missing. According to reports, authorities believe that Nancy was kidnapped from her home near Tucson, Arizona, on the night of January 31, 2025. Since then, authorities have been on an intensive search for her, and her family has put out pleading videos, seeking to establish contact with whoever sent the ransom note.
It was earlier reported that the ransom note, which was shared with several media outlets, including TMZ, sought USD 6 million from the Guthrie family. A while later, the TODAY show host, Savannah Guthrie and siblings, Annie and Camron, agreed to 'pay' for the safe return of their mother. And now there are reports of some activity in the cryptocurrency wallet. According to Fox News correspondent, Bill Melugin's statement on X:
"TMZ’s Harvey Levin says within the last 15 minutes, they’ve seen activity in the bitcoin account that was mentioned in the original alleged ransom note for Nancy Guthrie that TMZ received."
There is no confirmation of what the movement in the cryptocurrency account is, or whether there was any attempt to withdraw the money. KGUN9, another outlet that received the note, confirmed on X that the transaction was less than USD 300. Nonetheless, the news of the movement comes amid a massive SWAT and law enforcement mobilisation by the Pima County Sheriff's Department, which is investigating Guthrie's case.
While not much is known about why SWAT and law enforcement were mobilised on February 10, 2026 (ET), TMZ reported that sources close to the investigation suggested the person who sent the ransom note might be from Tucson. Authorities have allegedly based their determination on the note and the clues it contained. The working theory at the moment is that the person who sent the note is also the kidnapper. However, this has not been established for certain for now. According to scanner reports, a massive manhunt is underway in the area.
On February 10, 2026 (ET), the FBI released footage and images of a potential subject in the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping. An individual with a ski mask and gloves was seen at Nancy Guthrie's driveway the night of her disappearance. While no names have come forward in the investigation as persons of interest so far, there has been intense speculation about Nancy's son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, who was reportedly the last person to see her that night.
According to reports, Tommaso Cioni dropped Nancy Guthrie off at her home after dinner with her daughter, Annie. As per the latest reports, FBI agents and other law enforcement officials were also seen swarming Annie Guthrie's neighbourhood, though the exact reason remained unclear. While the family and law enforcement are yet to share any further updates, the search for Nancy remains underway.
