The actor has built a long career on Hindi television, playing several memorable characters before making his way into films and now the popular Mirzapur franchise. Away from the screen, however, Mohit's life is considerably quieter. He has been married to fellow television star Addite Shirwaikar Malik since 2010.
Mohit has spent almost 20 years in the Hindi television industry. The Delhi-born actor became widely known for playing 'Samrat Singh Rathore' in Doli Armaano Ki. He later played 'Sikandar Singh Gill' in Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala, a performance that earned him another strong fan following. His television credits also include Baatein Kuch Ankahee Si and Gatha Shiv Parivaar Ki – Ganesh Kartikey, where he played Lord Shiva. Mohit's career gradually widened to include films. He made his big-screen debut in 2025 as 'Tez Bahadur' with Ajay Devgn in Azaad. Mohit's rugged image on screen in the movie is a far cry from the soft and romantic roles that have been a large part of his television career. For 'Birju', he changed his look, grew a beard, and sported a rough, desi look.
Mohit's new character, 'Birju Lohar' Mirzapur: The Movie, is a loyal associate of 'Babban Yadav', played by Ravi Kishan, and is portrayed as a dangerous man who uses a chhitanki, a small but lethal weapon. Yet 'Birju' is not simply another violent character in the Mirzapur world. His emotional connection with ‘Beena Bhabhi’ (Rasika Dugal) adds another layer to his story. The two were lovers once, but their relationship was cut short when 'Beena' married 'Kaleen Bhaiya' (Pankaj Tripathi). Birju returns after many years with all his feelings of love, anger, and revenge.
One scene has particularly struck a chord with the viewers. Set to Saanson Ki Mala, the sequence shows 'Beena' confronting 'Birju' and shooting him before walking away in tears. 'Birju', meanwhile, responds with a quiet smile. The short but emotional moment has generated edits and reactions on social media, with fans showering praise on the chemistry between Mohit and Rasika.
While Mohit plays a complicated lover in Mirzapur, his real-life romance with actress Addite Shirwaikar has a much happier story. The couple first met while working on the television show Miilee in 2005. Their relationship reportedly didn't begin with instant romance. They initially didn't get along, but their relationship eventually matured as they got closer. Mohit proposed to Addite on April 1, 2006. Because it was April Fools' Day, she initially thought he was joking. The couple eventually got engaged in July 2010 and married on December 1 of the same year.
Speaking about Addite, she herself is a familiar face from Indian television. She appeared in shows including Shararat, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Kumkum – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan, Banoo Main Teri Dulhann, and Baat Hamari Pakki Hai. She later moved into entrepreneurship and became involved in the hospitality business.
Mohit and Addite welcomed their first child, son Ekbir, on April 27, 2021. The couple announced the baby's name on social media, with Mohit sharing a picture of himself and Addite holding their newborn. Addite later explained the meaning behind the unusual name, saying 'Ekbir' is a Sikh name meaning 'the only brave'. She said she immediately loved the name after Mohit suggested it.
Addite previously revealed that they had been dealing with a difficult family period and had initially planned to expand their family later. Despite both having careers in entertainment, Mohit and Addite have generally kept their family life away from excessive public attention.
