Prosecutors later dropped the charges when evidence showed the couple had staged everything to frame her. Angela pleaded guilty to felonies and served time, and Ian, a former U.S. Marshal, was convicted and sentenced to more than 10 years.
Netflix’s new show, A Toxic Love Story, has revisited the case once again, bringing a lot of details that possibly remain unknown to the audience. But at the same time, people have been eager to know where Michelle Hadley is.
After the legal issue was over, Michelle Hadley completed her MBA from Chapman University. She then worked in various companies. Michelle also started writing about her experience. She published two books, starting with Courage to Heal in 2025, followed by Courage to Love in 2026. Both books focus on getting through trauma and domestic abuse.
As per her LinkedIn page, she is a resident of Los Angeles. She has also spoken publicly about her case, including in a 2025 episode of Investigation Discovery’s TOXIC. Notably, Michelle’s LinkedIn bio says:
“MBA with 10+ years of experience in B2C and B2B marketing strategy with special expertise in CRM, CDP, marketing automation, customer insights, marketing analytics, and loyalty. 4+ years of management experience.”
According to Michelle’s LinkedIn profile, she started as a Program Assistant at Johns Hopkins University in 2007. She later served as an intern at the Biblioteca Italiana delle Donne and the Historical Society of Laguna Woods in 2008. Michelle even served in multiple positions at Dickinson College from 2006 to 2009.
She joined Hadley Racing Products as a Marketing Graphic Designer in 2003, followed by Sedgwick CMS, where she was a Claims Examiner in 2010. She was also a Proposal and Marketing Support Manager for the York Risk Services Group, a CRM Associate Program Manager for Disneyland Resort, and a Marketing Manager for JMAC Lending. In 2016, she was a Chief Marketing Officer for LotusLabs Consultancy.
Michelle Hadley was a manager at The Body Shop and served as a Director of different departments at Candid from 2019 to 2021. She also formed Les Coeurs Savages in 2021 and was an AVP for Marketing Strategy & Insights and a Director of CRM & Insights for Saks Fifth Avenue from 2020 to 2021. She has been a Customer Relationship Management Manager for Jenson USA since 2024.
Hadley filed a lawsuit against Anaheim and the Anaheim Police Department in 2018. According to Courthouse News, she accused them of overlooking evidence that suggested Angela had orchestrated the plot. That evidence reportedly included information showing the Craigslist “rape fantasy” ads were posted from devices inside Angela and Ian’s home, something police had allegedly found before arresting Hadley.
City lawyers argued in court filings that officers had enough reason to detain her. But in 2020, U.S. District Judge David Carter disagreed, stating that any competent investigator looking at the same evidence would not have found probable cause. The city settled with Hadley in April 2021, though the amount was not made public.
Her former fiancé was convicted, and she also gave birth to her daughter in March 2023. She later described the timing as one of those odd but meaningful coincidences in life, saying her child felt like the light after a long, difficult period and that it brought her immense joy.
During Ian’s trial, federal prosecutors alleged his motive was financial. They claimed he set Hadley up to pressure her into giving up her share of a condo they had bought together during their two-year relationship. Hadley said in the documentary that the relationship ended in August 2015 because he had grown controlling and abusive. She also emphasized that her experience was part of a larger pattern of domestic abuse and expressed hope that other women in similar situations would know support is available.
Ian, a former deputy U.S. Marshal, was ultimately sentenced to 10 years and one month in federal prison. Hadley reflected that she had overcome the ordeal and was now focused on raising her daughter, which she viewed as her own version of a happy ending. She noted that she may not be a princess, but she sees herself as the hero of her story. She also said that Ian may have thought he was clever, but he underestimated her strength.
