On August 4, 2026, Udhayanidhi was arrested following a complaint registered by a ruling TVK functionary accusing him of passing misogynist comment at a public meeting in Thanjavur a day earlier.
The Madras High Court directed Tamil Nadu Police to release the DMK leader. Amid this, Udhayanidhi’s wife, Kiruthiga’s interaction with the cops surfaced online. Now, if you're interested in knowing Udhayanidhi’s wife, Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, we’ve got you covered.
Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi is a Tamil filmmaker. She was reportedly born on July 3, 1978. She began her career with the directorial debut Vanakkam Chennai. The movie was produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin and starred Shiva and Priya Anand. Later, in 2017, Kiruthiga directed the music video, Sadhayai Meeri. She also directed the film, Kaali, the web series, Paper Rocket and the film, Kadhalikka Neramillai.
Amid Udhayanidhi Stalin’s arrest, one video showing Kiruthiga went viral on social media. In the now-viral video, Kiruthiga was seen asking police to wait as the DMK leader was in the toilet. The video showed Udhayanidhi’s Chennai residence and was captured moments before he was taken into police custody on July 4, 2026, in connection with his controversial remarks involving actress Trisha. In the clip, one police officer was heard saying, "We have been waiting for a long time. I am not doing anything unlawful here." Responding to them, Kiruthiga was heard saying:
"He's in the toilet. Please allow some time."
Udhayanidhi and Kiruthiga have been married since 2002. It was the DMK leader who proposed to Kiruthiga. However, initially she rejected him. But Udhayanidhi didn’t lose hope and kept trying, and eventually Kiruthiga accepted him and the duo began dating. In an interview, Kiruthiga said:
"As a husband, I can only give Udhayanidhi seven out of ten marks. He is a possessive person. When Udhayanidhi first told me about his love, I initially rejected him. A political family. I'm afraid of that kind of family. I avoided it by saying I wasn't interested. How could he convince me with the same request again and make me feel like a poor person? When I saw his face, I didn't feel like rejecting him. That's how we fell in love."
During the early days of their relationship, Udhayanidhi didn’t have his own car, and thus Kiruthiga used to come and pick him up. At the time, Udhayanidhi promised Kiruthiga that he would stay out of politics, but he had broken his promise. Sharing a glimpse into their love story, Kiruthiga said in an interview:
"In the early days of our relationship, Udhayanidhi didn't have his own car. I would go and pick Udhayanidhi up in my car and spend some time at Marina Beach. That was the time of our love. We made lots of promises before we started acting and during our relationship. He broke all that soon. If you are interested in becoming a politician, you should tell me now. I told you then that we can stop this here. Udhayanidhi had promised then that he would not go into politics. Now he has broken it."
Udhayanidhi has been very supportive of Kiruthiga’s career in the entertainment industry. When she made her directorial debut with the film, Vanakkam Chennai, the DMK leader took care of their kids. The couple is parents to two children. In an interview with TOI, Kiruthiga credited her husband for his immense support. She said, "He has been very supportive; he used to take care of our kids while I was away shooting. And without his support, I would not have been able to manage both the film and my family."
