She was reportedly pulled over on January 29, 2026, after authorities saw her driving 104 mph. She was also “dangerously tailgating” and driving across lanes to pass other motorists. At that time, she was arrested on a second-degree misdemeanor charge of dangerous excessive speeding.
While she originally pleaded not guilty, Richardson decided to change it to no contest to avoid jail time. Now that the spotlight is on her, let us introduce you to Richardson's boyfriend, Christian Coleman.
Sha'Carri Richardson's boyfriend, Christian Coleman, is from Atlanta, Georgia. He attended the University of Tennessee. As per the school’s official website, he majored in sports management.
Christian was a part of the university’s track and field program. Over the course of his college career, he got the chance to compete in several events. Christian won numerous awards competing with the Volunteers, and in 2017, he also became the NCAA Indoor 60-meter champion. Christian went pro later that same year. Forgoing his last year of eligibility with the University of Tennessee, he went ahead and signed an endorsement deal with Nike.
Eventually, Christian Coleman began competing internationally. He bagged the world champion title at the 2019 World Athletics Championships when he competed in the 100-meter dash. It is worth mentioning that in 2019, Christian career came to a brief halt as he was issued a two-year ban from competition when he racked up three Whereabouts failures for anti-doping tests.
These tests were reportedly done over the course of 12 months. While the ban was reduced to 18 months, it still prevented Christian from competing at the Tokyo Summer Olympics in Japan. After returning to competition, Christian was seen at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Coming to Christian Coleman and Sha’Carri Richardson's relationship, the duo sparked romance rumors after they were photographed embracing at the Championship. However, things were not always smooth sailing between the two as their relationship progressed. The couple grabbed headlines when Richardson got physical with her boyfriend. The incident happened in July 2025 during a trip through the Seattle-Tacoma airport in Washington.
In surveillance camera footage, Richardson could be seen repeatedly approaching her boyfriend while he tried to walk away from her. She then proceeded to push him hard into a column. Even after this, Christian did his best to walk away from the Olympic gold medalist, but she reportedly kept bumping into him and pushed him forcefully to such an extent that it sent him “flying a few feet away.”
Sha’Carri Richardson was even caught calling her boyfriend a “coward” on camera. Due to her actions, she was taken into custody and booked into the South Correctional Entity Jail. Reports revealed that she was charged with fourth-degree domestic violence assault. She also had to spend almost an entire day in jail before she was released.
Later, Richardson posted a video on social media apologizing to her boyfriend. Taking it a step further, the athlete also posted an Instagram Story to let Christian know that she was “so sorry” for what she did to him.
After Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested in the super speeder case, she had to post a USD 500 bail to be released from jail. Now, the Olympian has accepted a plea deal in the case. She has also agreed to pay a fine and take an aggressive driving course. Notably, Richardson’s arrest fell under Florida’s new “super speeders” law that has hefty fines and jail time for those who are caught going over 100 mph or 50 mph over the speed limit.
