However, this time, it is their youngest daughter, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, who has found herself in the spotlight. Vivienne filed a petition to drop her famous father's last name a few months ago, in late July 2026. Now, a while ago, a Los Angeles judge finally granted her petition.

According to Page Six, a Los Angeles judge has granted Vivienne’s petition to legally change her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie during a hearing on Monday, November 2, 2026. Judge Virginia Keeny, who presided over the hearing at Stanley Mosk Courthouse, read aloud the names of all those whose name change petitions had been approved. Once approved, the copy of the decree will be available for collection in approximately one week. The judge explained:
“These are name change petitions, which are going to be granted. That means that I can read the information provided and sign a decree, and you’ll be able to get a copy of the decree in possibly one week in room 112 on the first floor of this building, the Stanley Mosk Courthouse.”
The judge reiterated that those whose names she called out could sign off and get their paperwork in a week. She then said that she would call out the last name and the last four numbers of the case. While it did not take long for the judge to call out Vivienne's name, her name-change process overall had taken way more time.
For those unaware, Vivienne had to publish a notice of her name change every week for four consecutive weeks in the Los Angeles Daily Journal to inform the public of her request. With this, California law gives anyone with an objection time to respond before a final court hearing.
Vivienne initially filed a petition to drop her father, Brad Pitt's, last name on July 20, 2026, just eight days after she celebrated her 18th birthday alongside her twin brother, Knox. Court documents obtained by media outlets at the time revealed that Vivienne had cited “personal” reasons for wanting to legally change her name.
She had already been publicly using only her mother, Angelina Jolie’s surname for over two years. For instance, in May 2024, the teenager was credited as “Vivienne Jolie” in the Playbill for The Outsiders, a Broadway production that she helped her mother produce.
Vivienne joins her three siblings who have dropped Brad Pitt's surname
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox. After today’s court hearing, Vivienne is joining her three siblings, Shiloh, Maddox, and Zahara, who have already legally dropped ‘Pitt’ from their names. According to reports, Shiloh was the first to file to drop their father's surname after filing a petition on her 18th birthday in May 2024. Her request was granted that year in August 2024.
In September 2026, Zahara officially changed her name from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie after a Los Angeles judge granted her petition. Her older brother Maddox also legally removed ‘Pitt’ from his name in the same month, becoming Maddox Chivan Jolie.
A source close to Angelina previously stated that the actress wants everyone to heal. They claimed that the kids are not speaking ill and that just shows their decency. Elaborating on the same, the source said:
“If people knew the whole truth, they would have more sympathy for the children and respect them. The fact they aren’t speaking ill or sharing things publicly only shows their decency. Angie hasn’t been fighting and isn’t angry. She just wants everyone to heal.”
