After becoming the go-to person for credible weather updates over the years, Janice Dean has bid farewell to Fox News after 22 years. Needless to say, it was an emotional moment for both her and her viewers. However, it was essential after the longtime meteorologist's multiple sclerosis made it difficult for her to fulfil a demanding schedule. But, during all these ups and downs, her husband, Sean Newman, has always been by her side. Meanwhile, let's know more about him.

Who is Sean Newman? 

Sean Newman is a retired Battalion Chief. He used to work in the New York City Fire Department. But before taking up the role of a firefighter, Sean worked as a history teacher. In fact, he was also associated with Reuters as a journalist. Eventually, after spending more than two decades in the FDNY, he rose through the ranks to become a Battalion Chief.

Apart from his professional life, Sean is admired by Janice's fans for being a devoted husband and father. He and Janice share two sons, Matthew and Theodore. Together, they make a close-knit family. 

Janice has often credited her husband for helping her balance her family responsibilities, especially during her hectic early-morning schedule at Fox News. She has often described him as her "rock". Overall, she has often praised his constant support throughout a long battle with multiple sclerosis.

Sean Newman supported Janice Dean through her MS journey 

Sean Newman's role as a husband became more important when his wife was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2005. For those unaware, the autoimmune disease affects the central nervous system. In turn, it caused fatigue, numbness, and mobility issues. Despite the uncertainty that came with the diagnosis, Sean remained by her side. He helped her during the treatment and encouraged her to continue her career. 

The family also experienced a personal tragedy in 2020 when both of Sean's parents died due to COVID-19 in separate New York care facilities. The losss nspired Janice to become an outspoken advocate for more responsibility surrounding nursing home policies. Overall, despite every personal and professional challenge, the couple has continued to support one another.

Janice Dean and Sean Newman's love story 

Janice Dean and Newman first met in December 2002. Their mutual friends had set them up a blind date in New York City. Although their original dinner plans changed at the last minute. But, still the pair had dinner together at a nearby restaurant. They gradually developed a strong friendship that later turned into romance.

Their relationship faced its biggest test in 2005 when Janice was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis while they were still dating. She has admitted that she thought her diagnosis would end their relationship. But, instead, Sean became her source of comfort. They got married on June 8, 2007. Later, the couple even renewed their vows on their 10th wedding anniversary. Since then, they have just focused on raising their children and supporting each other's careers. 

Janice Dean's emotional Fox News farewell 

After spending 22 years at Fox News, Janice Dean has stepped away from the network to focus on her health. She reflected on having the privilege of spending more than two decades with viewers and her colleagues on Fox and Friends. In turn, she expressed her gratitude to her colleagues, production team, and especially her husband, who helped her manage the demanding schedule.

On the other hand, Fox News aired a montage highlighting her career highlights. It included weather coverage, special assignments, and appearances at big events. After fighting back tears, Janice admitted that she had not planned to cry before expressing her gratitude to everyone who had supported her throughout her journey. In her words:

"When you leave a career, a job, there is a grieving period because this has been part of my life. You guys have been my second family. I want to say to the audience, I have loved every moment you have invited me into your living rooms every single morning. It has been an honour of my life, and I feel really blessed to have done this job."

Meanwhile, she also discussed the physical toll of waking up at 2:30 every morning while living with multiple sclerosis. She explained that leaving the network was a difficult call to make, but necessary for her. So now she hopes to focus on her healing and spend time with her family, including her two teenage sons.
