Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleThe former King of Malaysia, Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah's daughter, Princess Ilyana, recently married a British racing driver, Christopher Froggatt, over the weekend. Sultan Abdullah of Pahang, who previously served his term as the Malaysian king, hosted the grand wedding of his daughter, which took place at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia.
The daughter of Sultan Abdullah of Pahang and former actress and model Che Puan Julia Rais, Ilyana walked down the aisle and married the man of her dreams, in the presence of her family and close friends. The celebration was all things royal and took place on August 7, 2026. Notably, Princess Ilyana, who is 29 years old, has been private about her personal life, and no details about her bond with her husband are known.
British racing driver Christopher Froggatt, 32, married Princess Ilyana in a solemn akad nikah ceremony, which is a traditional Islamic marriage ceremony. Several traditional ceremonies of the Pahang royalty took place before and following the couple's nikah. The ceremony was marked by high-profile guests, including Pahang Chief Minister Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates.
If the reports are to be believed, the ceremonies followed Islamic and Malay royal traditions, and it was the groom, Christopher Froggatt, who performed sunnah prayer before the wedding ceremony took place. Following the akad nikah ceremony, another traditional ceremony, mas kahwin, took place, which is a tradition where the bride is given gifts by the groom.
Some more traditional rituals also took place, including Merenjis, where the newlyweds are blessed by the guests, who sprinkle scented water on the couple while wishing them good luck ahead. Following all the rituals, the Royal Household of Pahang shared an official statement announcing the Princess' wedding. The statement could be read as:
"May Her Royal Highness Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Ilyana and Christopher Lionel Froggatt be blessed with happiness, grace, and lasting prosperity in sailing the ark of marriage, building a family that is sakinah, mawaddah wa rahmah [tranquil, loving, and merciful]."
Princess Ilyana exuded elegance and royalty with her bridal looks. Reportedly, there were two ceremonies, and she opted for two looks for her wedding with Christopher Froggatt.
The first ceremony was Akad Nikah, followed by the Majlis Persandingan Diraja the next day. In both ceremonies, the Princess looked breathtakingly gorgeous. The princess slipped into two traditional white-toned gowns, both designed by Datuk Radzuan Radziwill. For her wedding, Ilyana chose heirloom jewels, including Queen Azizah’s Art Deco Diamond Tiara, which was designed back in the 1920s. Along with that, the Princess donned emerald jewels.
Apart from that, she also wore an heirloom diamond choker during the second ceremony of her wedding with another gorgeous bridal outfit. For the second ceremony (reception), she wore a white-and-yellow-gold necklace, along with a garland-style tiara. For the second look, the Princess also had her 'something blue' attached to her jewels, as, according to reports, she wore a blue sapphire as a brooch with one of the necklaces.
We wish the newlyweds a lifetime of happiness.
