In a recent interview, Madhuri Dixit backed her 'Devdas' co-star, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, after she faced trolls and body-shaming remarks over her 2026 Cannes look.
Bollywood’s 'Dhak Dhak' girl, Madhuri Dixit, is currently hogging the limelight for her upcoming film, Maa Behen. For the unversed, the crime-comedy film is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on June 4, 2026. In a recent interview, Madhuri came out in defence of her Devdas co-star, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who was body shamed over her 2026 Cannes look. The 52-year-old Bollywood diva dazzled at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival in a royal blue couture gown.
In a recent interview with PTI, Madhuri Dixit was asked to share her take on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan being body shamed and trolled for her 2026 Cannes look. In response, Madhuri mentioned that Aishwarya holds a legacy to go to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival and has been continuing it for the past 20 years. The 52-year-old actress made the whole country proud with her dazzling appearance. Madhuri described Aishwarya as a global star. She was quoted as saying:
"Especially Aishwarya, when she went to Cannes, she has a legacy. She has been going there for 20 years. She has made the whole country proud. She is a global star. You cannot reduce her to a number on a scale, a number on the dress or the size or a number on the calendar years. You cannot reduce her to that. She is beautiful. She looks beautiful, but she is beautiful inside. I have worked with her. I think people have to realise that."
In the same interview, Madhuri was asked about trolling these days and whether the world has become harsher towards celebrities today. In response, Madhuri shared that earlier, there were also such trolls, but they didn’t have a platform to comment. But nowadays, these kinds of people have a platform to criticise openly. Madhuri stated that a celebrity’s worth should be their achievements and not their looks. She was quoted as saying:
"I feel there were such people earlier too, and there are still such people today who comment. Earlier, they didn’t have a way to comment, but today they have got that means platform. When you do these kind of comments, what kind of message are you sending to the youngsters today? Is your worth based on how you look, not on your achievements? I think this is a completely wrong message being sent."
While a section of social media users trolled Aishwarya’s Cannes look, a wide number of her loyal fans lauded her stunning appearance. A user wrote, "Look at the way the whole camera crew is turning towards her as she turns! Diva for a reason violet blue." Another user commented, "An icon. She has something special about her that people wait for her to arrive. It can't be just beauty. It's her overall nature that reflects on her beautiful face."
A third user penned, "The Aishwarya Rai is Aishwarya Rai... No one is even closer to her; she is a beauty queen, the Miss World and the real queen of Cannes. Her presence brings magic and energy to the event; she is the only one who, through her presence, makes Cannes complete." A fourth user wrote, "From crowning moment as Miss World to her historic reign on the Croisette, Aishwarya Rai’s decades-long journey remains the ultimate standard for global elegance and star power."
