Following this, Val Chmerkovskiy took to his social media and reportedly shared a post, referring to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards. Carrie Ann Inaba reacted to Val's alleged TikTok post, which has since been deleted.

After that, Val issued an apology. On his IG story, Val revealed that he personally apologized to Carrie for the 'careless' comment that he made. He further apologized to the public and stated that he should never have made such a comment. In his apology note, Val said he is grateful for the platform and for being a role model to some, and that he should think before posting. Apologizing to DWTS judge and mainstay, Carrie Ann Inaba, Val, in one portion of his note, wrote:
"I should have never made the reference that I did and I deeply regret it. I recognize that I am in a fortunate position to have a platform and to be a role model to some, and I need to treat that with more care by actively pausing to think before I post to ensure what I am sharing aligns with who I am, and who I want to be for you all. I am truly sorry to Carrie Ann, and everyone who I hurt with my careless post. I will do better moving forward."

Jenna asked, 'A lift?' To this, Carrie read the definition aloud from a paper, which says, "When one of the dancers has both feet off the floor at the same time with the assistance or support of their partner." Carrie gave the duo an 8, and speaking about the same, Jenna said that it's hard when someone calls out the other for a 'lift'.
However, she acknowledged Carrie Ann Inaba's comment as well. Following this, Val Chmerkovskiy took to his TikTok and made a comment stating, "You almost saw Fresh Prince enter the ballroom last night". The comment grabbed significant attention, as it was seemingly a reference to Will Smith's Oscar slapping incident.
The post was deleted after a while, but the screenshot was shared by media outlets and eventually reached Carrie Ann Inaba. She took to her social media handle and, reacting to the same, replied, "So this is what we are doing now?" while thanking the media outlets for bringing Val's comment to her attention. Val's apology came just after Carrie Ann's reaction to his controversial post.
