Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleGrey's Anatomy is back with another season! The show premiered in 2005 and has been on the air for over 20 years. Over the years, we have seen old faces leave, new faces become regulars, friendships and relationships change, and Seattle Grace become Grey Sloan Memorial. However, if there's one thing that hasn't changed in two decades, it's the fact that the show ends up with more drama every single time.
Grey's Anatomy premiered Season 23 on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 10 PM ET on ABC and will continue to air weekly until its mid-season finale, usually around Thanksgiving. However, as Episode 1, Collide, airs, fans have questions about what's in store, especially after the teaser featuring some new faces. So, as fans dive into the world of Grey Sloan Memorial once again, let's take a look at who is saying goodbye and what the big pregnancy surprise is that has everyone on the edge of their seats. Warning: Spoilers ahead!
Grey's Anatomy Season 23 Episode 1 introduces a brand-new face, which leaves 'Meredith Grey' dismayed
The cycle of happiness, anger, sadness, and death continues at Grey Sloan Memorial in the brand-new season of Grey's Anatomy. However, while there are several changes, the first episode starts on a celebratory note, at least for 'Catherine Fox', who is over the moon as she cuts the ribbon on her new, "very fancy" VIP wing. 'Dr. Fox' uses this opportunity to introduce the hospital's newest hire, 'Dr. Seth Norton'.

However, as it turns out, not everyone is happy about the snazzy new offering made by 'Dr. Fox' to Grey Sloan Memorial. And one of them is the OG of the show, 'Dr. Meredith Grey'. What bugs her more is that she is assigned the first on-demand surgery for a donor's daughter right when she was trying to help with the ER trauma and treat a 17-year-old with a painful hernia that turned out to be so much worse.
While 'Grey' is not having any of it, 'Richard Webber' defends the new luxe life offering, citing a financial downturn for the hospital. Nonetheless, he was visibly happier visiting the trauma ward to check on his residents than he was holding a debutante's dog. What really made 'Webber' groove was when he saw 'Simone Griffith' give treatment to a French teacher who presented signs of a stroke and was ultimately diagnosed with a rare condition.
However, like anything with Grey's Anatomy, it is not as simple, as it turns out the finding wasn't really 'Griffith's' and rather it was 'Benson "Blue" Kwan', who spotted the madame looking feeble in his video-conferenced-in home class and rushed her in for treatment under 'Dr. Griffith's' name. He hid behind the door to keep 'Webber' from finding him in the hospital. He was still fired, after all, and he didn't seem to hope things would get better, even after such a successful save.
'Simone Griffith' is having 'Lucas Adams's' baby?
While the patient was a great save, it was not the biggest thing 'Simone Griffith' was worried about. As it turns out, after hooking up with 'Lucas Adams' in Season 22, tension between them grows to an all-time high, especially since 'Griffith' decided that she will be staying with 'Wes Bryant' despite everything. However, to add to her chaos, she is left standing with a positive pregnancy test result in her hand, leaving fans wondering whether it is 'Adams's' baby.
'Miranda Bailey's' decision to end 'Winston Ndugu' and 'Jules Millins's' budding relationship?
If you thought 'Simone Griffith' had it bad, 'Miranda Bailey' unknowingly has wrecked 'Winston Ndugu' and 'Jules Millins's' relationship. It all began when two planes collided on a runway after an FAA officer was overworked and experienced an aortic aneurysm complication during his instructions. The incident pushed 'Amelia Shepherd' and 'Toni Wright' to lock horns as they played a game of chicken over which of the patient's needs was more pressing.
The disagreement centered on whether the patient's facial bleeding or potential spinal injuries were more urgent. 'Shepherd' won that fight when it turned out the patient had internal decapitation, but 'Wright' was right that her bleeding was an issue.
Ultimately, the patient, a first-day pilot, died on their table despite a successful neurosurgery. Afterward, 'Shepherd' goes over to 'Wright's' apartment with a proverbial hat in hand and apologizes for hooking up with 'Cass Beckman', explaining she thought that 'Wright' was choosing her ex-wife.
Ultimately, 'Wright' caved, and the two ended up making out in the hallway. Meanwhile, the FAA agent is saved by 'Millin' as 'Ndugu' walks her through a cardiac surgery until things became emergent and 'Bailey' took over. This is where things seem to change. As we remember, in Season 22, 'Bailey' and 'Ben Warren' have a heart-to-heart about the former pursuing a master's degree in public health.

However, she was uncertain, with doubts creeping in about whether she could maintain her status as a surgeon, mother, wife, mentor, and more. Nonetheless, seeing the government's failure to care for the FAA agent's wellness helped her decide. And the decision is that 'Bailey' will give 'Ndugu' her job as residency director. While it's good news for him, it's not very favorable for 'Ndugu' and 'Millin's' relationship.
Another couple in very BIG trouble in the premiere were 'Jo Wilson' and 'Atticus "Link" Lincoln'. As 'Wilson' struggles with PTSD as a result of her traumatic birth experience with the twins, she was horrified to see a rushed surgery in action on the elevator. She runs off as soon as she possibly could from the gory scene. Meanwhile, 'Link', who was still clearly in pain from his shoulder injury, was hiding his medication needs from his wife and seemed stunned when she walked in to say that she quit her job.
Meet the new Chief of Surgery
The final surprise for Grey's Anatomy Season 23, Episode 1 turns out to be the new doctor in town. While 'Dr. Seth Norton' was initially introduced as 'Catherine Fox's' partner in the VIP wing development, she ends up announcing to 'Meredith Grey' that 'Norton' would become the new chief of surgery. And his opinion will count more than 'Dr. Grey's' because she's no longer a full-timer at the hospital.
