Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleAnna Faris is speaking out after her former boss, Chuck Lorre, revisited her unexpected departure from the sitcom Mom in his new memoir. The actress, who left the CBS comedy after a successful seven-season run, said his remarks caught her off guard and left her hurt.
In an October 15, 2026, Instagram post, Chris Pratt's ex-wife and baby mama also shared a very personal update, revealing she has been sober for a year and a half and is now healthier and happier than she has been in a long time.
What did Chuck Lorre say About Anna Faris' unexpected Exit from Mom after seven seasons?
In Lorre's newly released memoir, Sitcom, the television creator reflected on his initial hesitation about casting Faris as the protagonist, 'Christy Plunkett', a single mother navigating addiction and recovery. Lorre explained that he initially questioned whether the actress was the right choice for the role, even when she was the network's preferred choice.
Lorre wrote, "I wasn't sure Anna would be appropriate for this kind of material." However, he later reconsidered his doubts after he reflected on his difficult experience working with Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men. He concluded that an actor's personal life should not determine whether they are suitable for a role.

"Someone's personal life is none of my business," Lorre wrote, adding that Faris was the right person to bring 'Christy' to life. However, as the series progressed, Lorre says his premonition turned out to be 'correct', as Anna abruptly left the show after seven seasons. Lorre described her departure as "mysterious," adding that the cast was confused as to exactly why she left.
Anna, now 49, shared her reaction to the excerpts that she read from Chuck's memoir, revealing that his Mom-casting diss was unexpected and hurtful. In an Instagram post on October 15, 2026, the House Bunny actress wrote:
"Yikes. Yes, I read a few things. I really didn't see that coming. Of course it hurts."
Despite her disappointment, the actress acknowledged what the show had meant to her and expressed gratitude for the opportunity Lorre gave her. She continued:
"Chuck gave me a job I loved, and for seven years I never took a day of it for granted. I'm proud of what we made together, and nothing changes how grateful I am for those people and those years."

Faris announced her departure from Mom in September 2020, ahead of the sitcom's eighth season. At the time, she did not publicly give any specific reason for leaving and only said that her journey as 'Christy' had come to an end. She mentioned she wanted to pursue new opportunities. The series continued without Faris for one final season before CBS took it off-air in 2021.
Anna Faris reveals she's sober and happier than ever after stepping back
While responding to Lorre's comments, Faris also shared how her life has changed since leaving the fan-favorite sitcom and taking time to reassess her priorities. Reflecting on her sobriety journey, she wrote on the same post:
"I've been sober for a year and a half. I was on a show about recovery, and then I lived it. Now I'm healthy, I'm working, and I'm happier than I've been in a long time."
Anna concluded her message on an encouraging note for everyone reading it. She wrote, "If anyone reading this is where I was, I hope that's useful. It gets better. I'm proof."

Faris' comments come after she spoke up about her mental health and relationship with alcohol during an August 2026 appearance on Chelsea Handler's Dear Chelsea podcast. The mother of one said she believed she had been experiencing depression before recognizing what was happening. She eventually realized there was a link between her drinking habits and her mental health. Anna said during the conversation:
"I had to take a step back and not self-sabotage."
Faris had also reflected on her decision to leave Mom in earlier interviews. She described the production as an intense but rewarding experience and acknowledged that she began to lose focus during its demanding run.
Faris played 'Christy' for seven successful years alongside Allison Janney, who portrayed her mother, 'Bonnie Plunkett'. The sitcom followed the mother-daughter pair as they worked to maintain their sobriety while navigating family struggles and rebuilding their lives. While Anna is grateful for the journey, Lorre told PEOPLE that he had not spoken with Faris since her departure.
