The 26-year-old died after allegedly being pushed into a gorge at Lohagad Fort near Lonavala by his fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her alleged boyfriend, Chetan Chaudhary.
Adding to the misery, the deceased's family has shared even more disturbing details suggesting it was not Siya's first attempt at killing Ketan. A similar incident happened days before the murder.
According to Ketan's father, Vishal Agarwal, the couple had visited Lohagad Fort on June 14, 2026, four days before Ketan's death. During the trek, Siya allegedly pushed Ketan near a cliff edge. However, he managed to save himself by grabbing onto a bush. Realising that Ketan had survived, Siya allegedly screamed that a snake was nearby and rushed to hug him.
Ketan, believing that his fiancee had just saved his life, he reportedly hugged her thanked her for her prompt reaction. While the incident was brushed off as an accident at that time, with investigators now uncovering an an alleged murder conspiracy, that moment has taken on a far more sinister meaning.
On June 18, 2026, just a day before Siya's twentieth birthday, she allegedly convinced Ketan to return to Lohagad Fort for another outing, where he fell into a 400-feet deep gorge. Siya initially claimed Ketan had slipped while taking photographs near the edge, but investigators soon became suspicious when CCTV footage, phone records and witness statements revealed that Siya's alleged boyfriend, Chetan Chaudhary, was also present near the fort that day. Authorities now allege that Siya and Chetan conspired to kill Ketan and pushed him into a gorge, leading to his death.
According to Ketan Agarwal's family, there were several warning signs in the days leading up to his death that, in hindsight, appeared deeply suspicious. Besides the earlier trekking mishap, the Agarwal family also raised concerns about a cancelled Bali pre-wedding trip, during which Ketan's passport mysteriously went missing, and Siya's repeated insistence on returning to Lohagad shortly before his death. After the family shared their suspicions, police examined Siya's phone and other evidence, allegedly uncovering her long-running relationship with Chetan Chaudhary and her reluctance to marry Ketan.
According to Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill, the investigation uncovered over a year-long affair between Siya Goyal and 22-year-old Chetan Chaudhary, and the former had repeatedly tried to convey her reluctance to marry Ketan. Things started to connect when investigators found that Chetan was present at the murder scene on the day of Ketan's death. SP Gill also noted that the accused have confessed to the killing. He reportedly told HT:
"Through Call Record Data we managed to figure out that Chetan Chaudhary was also at Lohagad at the same time that Ketan and Siya were there."
Ketan's father, Vishal Agarwal, has publicly questioned whether other people may have known about the alleged plot, while also sharing that his son had repeatedly voiced concerns about Siya Goyal after their engagement, but the family didn't read much into it, given their decades-long relationship with Siya's family. A devastated Vishal told HT:
"After the engagement in February, Ketan and Siya met frequently and went out together. At times, Ketan expressed concerns about Siya, and asked us whether we had properly verified her antecedents. But as her family was related to us through our extended family network, I reassured him that everything was fine."
Vishal Agarwal also claimed that the couple frequently argued over seemingly minor issues during their engagement period. He recalled that Siya was often occupied with her phone, something that had begun to concern Ketan. According to Vishal, his son had even mentioned Chetan Chaudhary's name on multiple occasions, expressing suspicions that Siya might share a closer relationship with him than she admitted.
