Born Olivia Jean Markel in Detroit in 1990, she began her music career at Third Man Records, the label founded by Jack White. In 2009, she formed the all-female gothic rock band, The Black Belles, with Ruby Rogers, Chrissy Valentine, Erom Belle, Shelby Lynne and Christina Norwood.
Olivia Jean got in touch with Jack White purely for professional collaborations. For the unversed, Jean was only 19 years old when she first met White after he invited her to his record label after hearing her demo. He connected her with other musicians and even helped her form the all-female goth-garage band, The Black Belles. Whote produced the band's first single and their 2011 self-titled debut album on the Third Man label. They continued to collaborate on several projects, with Jean even appearing on some of White's solo albums and in his music videos. He also produced her 2014 solo debut album, Bathtub Love Killings.
While the details of how their professional collaboration turned into a romantic relationship are unknown, the first thing fans noticed when the couple became official was their massive age gap. For the unversed, Jack White was born on July 9, 1975, and Olivia Jean on February 23, 1990, which means they share a 14-year age gap. However, the difference didn't stop them from building a happy life for themselves.
Jack White and Olivia Jean started dating in 2014, according to a 2022 interview with The New York Times. They kept their relationship largely away from the public eye until White's Instagram post in 2021. A year later, Jake proposed to Jean in one of the most unique ways possible.
It was during his concert at the Masonic Temple Theatre in Detroit on April 8, 2022, that White got down on one knee during the performance of The White Stripes' song, Hotel Yorba. Jack brought Olivia onto the stage, just before singing the line "Let's get married," and presented her with a ring. The couple got married during the same show, with Ben Swank, a co-founder of White's Third Man Records, officiating the ceremony.
According to the court documents obtained by TMZ, the couple has decided to part ways after almost four years of marriage. While the details of their split are unknown, the document states that it was Olivia Jean who filed for divorce from Jake White, following what she has cited as "inappropriate marital conduct". A part of the filing could be read as:
"Wife would show that husband is guilty of inappropriate marital conduct, which makes further cohabitation unsafe and improper."
