Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleDolly Parton's death has left a massive hole in the hearts of her fans, friends, and family. The tragic news was first announced by the legendary singer's nephew and longtime head of security, Brian Seaver, via a video on Instagram.
Following her passing, Dolly was laid to rest in a private funeral service that was attended by her immediate family on August 28, 2026. For those unaware, Dolly had a brief battle with cancer in the months leading up to her death; however, she kept it away from most of her family.
Dolly Parton was 80 years old at the time of her death on August 25, 2026. Fans only became aware that she struggled with cancer after she passed away. Now, according to the singer's sister, Stella Parton, it was not just the fans, but also the majority of their family who did not know that Dolly had cancer.
During her interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings on September 9, 2026, Stella said that Dolly’s decision was intentional. Revealing the reason behind it, Stella shared:
“Well, Dolly did not want anybody to tell that because Dolly could not bear negative things, and she would not have wanted her fans worried about it. She didn’t want a lot of the family worried about it. Some of us knew, the ones that were closer, but not every relative.”
But while the Jolene singer “did not want people sad,” Stella said that there was definitely one aspect that would please Dolly about the outpouring of grief following her death. According to Stella, her sister would be glad that people cared, as she already knew it would also make her family feel better. In her words:
“She’d be really happy and delighted that people have shown her so much love because she knew that that would make us feel better as her family. Bottom line, end of the day, her family and Carl’s family and probably Judy’s family are the people that she would want to say, ‘See, everything I did, they cared. They really loved me.'”
Before her appearance on CBS Mornings, Stella urged everyone to follow in her sister’s footsteps in an Instagram post where she gushed about Dolly being a “positive influence.” In the same tribute post, Stella also opened up about Dolly’s final days. While calling the singer the most generous, thoughtful, and kind person she has ever known, Stella Parton shared:
“What the world saw is exactly who she was, so much so, she told me recently that if there was no hope for her, she would still allow her medical team to try experimental drugs in the hope of helping others in the future. Dolly loved the world and everyone in it.”
Stella recalled that she would criticize and complain about the world to her older sister. However, Dolly would simply laugh and tell her that there are more important things to worry about. Stella said that the singer was absolutely correct, and she proved the same every day.
In her final interview on August 21, 2026, Dolly admitted that her physical condition began declining when her beloved husband, Carl Dean, passed away. Recalling that time, she claimed that she would often ignore her own health just to look after him.
Dolly mentioned having "female issues" for several months and also struggling with her weight. The country star admitted that she should have paid more attention to her health and revealed that she had been having "hard times" due to her ailments.
On August 21, 2026, Dolly was admitted to the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville. She died there four days later.
