'In another life', this is the story of Mary Mich and Luke Reimer, a young couple who wanted to get married and were working towards building their future, but left it all here in this life. Their family believed that the couple shared true love, and to honour their wish of getting married, Mary and Luke's family treated their funeral as their wedding. It's something unique and sacred, as it feels. PEOPLE recently interviewed Mary's mom, Christy, who shared the reason that took the young couple's lives, while sharing glimpses of their love story and the funeral, which was treated as their union. Let's have a look!

While losing a child is something that a mom can never get over, Christy, Mary's mom, shared with PEOPLE that, besides everything, she feels at peace, knowing that her daughter is with the love of her life. She revealed that her daughter and her beau, Mary and Luke, were found dead in a car, 15 feet away from her dorm.

A young couple, who were so much in love, passed away in a tragic accident

The reason for the couple's death was tragic, and it happened due to a problem with the vehicle's exhaust, which cannot be seen or smelled. The incident was caused by carbon monoxide poisoning, a 'tragic death', and as per Christy, Luke was seen resting his head on Mary's shoulder, as if she was comforting him. An emotional Christy then recalled how the duo's love story began.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Christy revealed that Luke first saw her while he was hanging out with a few friends, and described her as one of the most beautiful girls that he saw in the university. Mary later revealed how she was all casual when Luke saw her for the first time, and still, he called her the most beautiful. As per Mary's mother, the couple shared something authentic, and while Luke hadn't proposed officially, they were working towards building a future together.

Luke, a business major, was planning to launch a business that would make lacrosse supplies more affordable. Mary, on the other hand, was planning to apply to teach students. She was close to kids, as shared by her mom. Luke wanted to spend time with Mary's family as well, as Christy shared that he would go on a walk with his girlfriend's dad, stand in line for hours, and also play video games with her brothers.

The couple's family decided to treat their joint funeral like their wedding, since the couple would have wanted to get married. Mary donned a red dress, and was carried in a white casket, symbolic of a wedding dress, while Luke was carried in a black casket, referring to a black tuxedo. The couple wore wedding bands and a lock of each other's hair. During the service, a Bible passage that is typically read at weddings was read, with a message that love is patient and kind.
