Bhoot Bangla was one of the most anticipated films of 2026. For those unaware, the film has undergone several date changes. It was initially slated to release in theatres on May 15, 2026, but was preponed to April 10, 2026. But later, the date was revised again, and it finally arrived a few days ago in the cinemas, on April 17, 2026. One of the biggest reasons that fans had been extremely excited for the film is that it marks the reunion of Akshay Kumar and filmmaker, Priyadarshan. Now, amid the film's ongoing success, rumours have been swirling about the possibility of a Bhoot Bangla sequel.
Akshay Kumar's entertainer, Bhoot Bangla, is a horror comedy set in the ghostly town of Mangalpur. Before the film hit theatres, many were sceptical about whether it would be as successful as Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Thankfully, both Akshay and director, Priyadarshan have proved them wrong at the box office. For those unaware, Bhoot Bangla is a standalone film featuring new characters and a new story, and has no connection to Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Now, while it has only been a couple of days since the film's release, it has already generated a lot of buzz, especially about the possibility of a Bhoot Bangla sequel.

As of now, neither Akshay nor Priyadarshini have announced the horror comedy's second part. However, the director did give a few clues regarding the same in Bhoot Bangla, which you might have noticed if you have already watched the film.

In Bhoot Bangla, we see that when ‘Vasudev’ leaves for his conferences, that is when ‘Meera’ received ‘Dushund Maharaj,’ her late grandfather's property papers. Upon receiving the papers, she is declared the heir of the multicrore mansion. Later, a miser named ‘Arjun’ decides to tie the knot with ‘Meera’ at their heritage home. In order to prepare for this, he goes to Mangalpur and hires a wedding planner called ‘Jagdish Kewalramani.' To help him with the preparations, ‘Jagdish,’ also known as ‘Jaggu’, brings his nephew, ‘Balli’, on board for assistance.

Before long, ‘Balli’ becomes the target of Mangalpur's resident demon, ‘Vadhusur,’ and also ends up getting possessed by evil at the end of the film. Even when ‘Vadhusur’ meets his end, it is not clear whether ‘Balli’ is cured or not and ends up going missing. Many have assumed that ‘Balli’ is now the carrier of ‘Vadhusur.’ This is especially the case after ‘Arjun’ rescues his sister from the custody of his kin.

It is worth noting that ‘Vadhusur’ had also accepted ‘Arjun’s’ father, ‘Madhav,’ as his disciple. While he transformed into a bat-like creature, there were high chances that the curse would be passed down to ‘Arjun,’ potentially making him the next ‘Vadhusur.’ Several years later, we find that ‘Arjun’ is still living in North India. Here, he tells the story of the demon in order to help train the travellers.

The biggest question that lingers in viewers' minds at this point is why ‘Arjun’ decided to stay back here even after his sister's wedding. Priyadarshan had clarified that ‘Arjun’s’ main purpose is to know more about his grandfather's past, despite this, chances are that there is more of a story and more mysteries that we haven't been made aware of in this film yet.
As we have already mentioned, Bhoot Bangla has already managed to dominate the box office in the few days since its release. According to a report by Times Now, Bhoot Bangla has earned a staggering amount of Rs. 93 crore worldwide in just three days. The publication also predicted that the movie will continue to grow in this manner because, as of now, there are no major releases scheduled till May 1, 2026. The film's growing success will hopefully convince the makers to sanction Bhoot Bangla's sequel.
