Why Was Heavy Police Activity Seen Near Nancy Guthrie's Home? Authorities Believe She Might Be Alive

The long search for Nancy Guthrie has yielded no major results. But it has not stopped the FBI and authorities from searching for the 84-year-old. Recently, after nearly three months of her disappearance, new visuals from a separate neighborhood suggested there might be developments in the case. While the authorities are treating her case with urgency owing to Nancy's age and health, the latest police activity in her Tucson neighborhood has raised eyebrows.

Why was heavy police activity seen in Nancy Guthrie's neighborhood?

According to X users and local journalists, heavy police activity was reported in West University, Tucson, on April 23, 2026. He suggested that multiple vehicles, a helicopter, and K-9 units were seen analyzing the neighborhood. Video footage of the place also showed officers searching in the area for an hour. These activities hint towards an active operation in the area. For those unaware, helicopters and trained dogs are usually deployed to search for suspects or missing persons, which led netizens to quickly connect the police activity to Nancy Guthrie. In Jacob's words:

"A helicopter circling overhead, officers seen with a K-9 in the area. We are waiting on more info from TPD. One neighbor says this has been going on for the last 60/90 minutes here in Midtown."

However, the officials did not confirm whether the activity was directly related to the 84-year-old's case. The Pima County Sheriff's Department, which is leading the search for Nancy's case, has not issued any statement to ascertain that the police activity was in fact related to Nancy's disappearance. Later, Jacob revealed that officers detained a shirtless man at the scene, and paramedics were immediately called in. Notably, the distance between the location of the police activity and Nancy Guthrie's Tucson home is around eight to nine miles, which has further added uncertainty to the case.

Authorities believe Nancy Guthrie might be alive

Despite the lack of clear links, authorities have continued the search for Nancy Guthrie under the belief that she might be alive. According to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, the investigators are treating the case as a suspected kidnapping incident. Therefore, they are working under the assumption that she might be held somewhere. This approach is important for them because Nancy Guthrie is 84-year-old and she reportedly faces multiple underlying health issues. So, the approach would help them provide immediate medical attention to Nancy Guthrie when she is found.

Nancy Guthrie might have 'fought' her kidnappers

Some other experts have supported the theory about Nancy Guthrie being alive. Former FBI agent Jim Clemente sat down for a conversation with NewsNation, suggesting that evidence found at the crime scene, such as blood drops, suggests that Nancy Guthrie might have tried to fight her attacker before she was taken. The blood patterns found outside her home suggest that there was likely a struggle, following which she was subdued and taken away. It reinforces the possibility that she was abducted and did not leave voluntarily, keeping the hope for her search alive. Sharing his understanding of the blood pattern, Jim said:

"I believe that Nancy fought him, either inside the door or just outside, depending on where the first appearance of this blood splatter evidence is. And at that point, she was likely either blitzed with overwhelming force, punched in the face or the nose, and she began bleeding."

Investigators had gathered several pieces of DNA evidence so far in the 84-year-old's case, but none of it has led them to the culprit. However, the tests confirmed that the blood found on her home's porch belonged to her, hinting at a violent attempt to save herself. At the same time, the authorities found a glove about two miles from her home that looked similar to the one worn by a masked man. The anonymous man was seen in Nancy Guthrie's doorbell camera footage, but no matches have been found in the FBI database. According to the surveillance footage, the masked man was seen around her home on the night she disappeared, but there is no development in the search for him or Nancy Guthrie.
