He married his high school sweetheart, Shante Broadus, in 1997, and the couple welcomed three children: Cordé, Cordell, and Cori. However, Snoop Dogg later filed for divorce from his wife.
Why did Snoop Dogg file for a divorce from his wife, Shante Broadus?
Despite Snoop and Shante’s long-standing relationship of over two decades, their marriage faced many trials and tribulations. In 2004, reports surfaced that Snoop filed for a divorce from Shante in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’. The Gin & Juice rapper admitted in an interview that superstardom inflated his ego.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Snoop accepted infidelity in his marriage. The rapper revealed that he cheated on Shante and called it the worst thing he did. He also revealed that apart from cheating, the pressures of the music industry were too much to handle, and his vision got clouded.
In 2005, Snoop canceled the divorce and reconciled with Shante. The rapper realized that he wanted to keep his family together, and after advice from close figures like musician Charlie Wilson, Snoop decided to take back the divorce. He noted that it took "a whole lot of begging and pleading" to win Shante back.
During Charlie Wilson’s Hollywood Walk of Fame, Snoop shared how the legendary singer helped him save his marriage, as he said:
“There were certain phases in my life where I felt like, 'I should be by myself, I should do this alone. Wilson was the only one man enough to pull me to the side and let me know, 'Don't blow a good thing. Get back home. You got the greatest woman in the world. You have a family.'"
Snoop Dogg welcomed a son outside his marriage
After reconciliation, Shante Broadus and Snoop Dogg renewed their wedding vows in 2008. But the rapper’s life has always been marred with cheating rumors. In 2019, YouTube personality Celina Powell claimed that Snoop had an affair with her, and rapper 6ix9ine shared posts supporting the scandal. The rapper later responded publicly through his show, Clout Chasers. He exposed the plot and defended his marriage.
Snoop Dogg had a relationship with Laurie Holmond while he was in a serious relationship with Shante. The affair resulted in the birth of their son, Julian Broadus, born in 1998. Though their relationship ended, she stayed connected to Snoop through their child.
In 2024, once again Snoop and Shante’s relationship turned to headlines after she posted a cryptic message on social media that alluded to her husband's infidelity. The post can be read as, “They never cheat with prettier; they cheat with easier.” After Shante posted the cryptic message, Snoop seemingly responded on Instagram. He reposted a video of Candi Staton performing her 1976 song Young Hearts Run Free. The text written above the video can be read as:
“A song about staying with your husband, no matter how many other women he has.”
