He explained that sometimes he felt overshadowed by the music icon's success and fame, which affected his confidence in their relationship.

She revealed that it gradually became difficult for her and Nick to manage their busy careers while raising their kids. The singer suggested that some external influences, emotions, and the negative impact of living in the public eye also played a role in their decision to separate. Still, neither one calls the split bitter or hostile.
Although many celebrities drift apart after a divorce, Nick and Mariah continue to have a strong friendship. He recently spoke to Us Weekly and revealed that they often talk to each other. However, it is mostly due to their kids. Therefore, most of their chats are related to co-parenting their twins. In his words:
"We were able to, kind of, move on and be amicable and be the best parents we can. And, like, to this day, man, we talk almost every day or every other day or, you know, just specifically just about the kids."
Nick also praised his ex-wife for giving him some important lessons during their marriage. He called Mariah his "greatest friend" and his "greatest teacher." The actor shared that she introduced him to new experiences and perspectives that he wouldn't have had without her. Alongside, he praised her ability to maintain privacy despite being a global star. Sharing his views, he said:
"I learned so much. I always say Mariah Carey was my greatest friend and my greatest teacher all at the same time. I mean, it showed me aspects of the world that I had never seen before and probably would never see again."
