Collin Gosselin has been making headlines for his memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood. According to many reports, Collins’ memoir will include details about his childhood and some not-so-good experiences. In his memoir, Collin described his mom Kate’s affair with Steve Neild, who was once the family’s private security guard.

Collin Gosselin reveals details about his mom, Kate Gosselin’s cheating

It was in November 2025 that Kate made her relationship with Steve Neild official. During that time, it was reported that Kate had cheated on her husband, Jon Gosselin, as there had been rumours of her with Steve during the HGTV series, Jon and Kate Plus 8. When Kate announced her relationship with Steve, Jon reacted and penned on his IG story, “I told you all. No one believed me—guess I was right!”

And now, Collin, who is all set to release his memoir, shared his insight into his mom, Kate’s, relationship with Steve. During a recent interview, Collin shared:

“Even before any articles came out, I always had information pertaining to [her] relationship with him. However, I always believe that advocating for abuse and things that went on in the home, and just any bad things that come from reality TV, I always believe that those were higher on the list of priority versus talking about her relationship with him.”

What was the reason behind Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin’s divorce?

Jon and Kate got a lot of attention after they appeared on the TLC reality show Jon and Kate Plus 8. The show featured a married couple managing a family of sextuplets and two older twins. By season 5, the couple announced their decision to split. Many reasons were reported for their split, but nothing was clear.

At the time of the breakup, rumours were rife that Jon cheated on Kate, but he maintained that he had remained true to his wife of 10 years. On an episode in 2014, Jon mentioned his marriage was "very non-affectionate" and "just kind of like 10 years of a business transaction." Speaking about the same, he mentioned:

“I always felt like I did Kate's task list. 'Here's the Post-it note. This is what you have to do. This is how you're a good husband. This is how you're going to behave.' [I thought], 'OK … I'm going to complete these tasks, and she'll love me because I do these things.'”

Who got custody of the kids after Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin’s divorce?

After Jon and Kate's divorce, custody of their kids was awarded to Kate. It was difficult for Jon to keep in touch with his children since Kate tried to restrict them. He also stated that since he did not share an open relationship with his children, communication with them was difficult, which made him feel alienated.

In 2022, Kate sued Jon for child support in the amount of USD 132,875. A source close to Jon revealed, "She is relentless and desperate for money, so she is now trying to sue.” Kate lost the court battle against her ex, and the case closed in 2023.

What was the tiff between Collin Gosselin and Kate Gosselin?

After Jon and Kate parted ways and divorced in 2009, Kate was given custody of their children. Things took an ugly turn when Kate sent Collin to a behavioural health institution in 2016, following what she described as "unpredictable and violent behaviour." However, Collin left the program and moved in with Jon, who was later awarded custody of him. 

On June 17, 2026, Collin announced that his memoir would be released on October 13, 2026. Along with the announcement, Collin addressed his experience writing the book and shared how it led him to revisit some of the hardest moments of his life. The memoir also features some of the unknown realities of his family.
