Who was Cesar Gastelum?
Cesar Gastelum was a pretty popular face on Mexican social media, building a dedicated online following with his comedy sketches, lifestyle content, musical covers, and interactive livestreams. He used to regularly stream on his YouTube and Kick handles that generated millions of views.
What has made his murder more shocking is that, unlike many creators associated with commentary or current affairs, Gastelum focused on lighthearted entertainment that resonated with younger audiences. Known for his cheerful personality and regular interaction with followers, Gastelum had become one of the most recognizable influencers from Sinaloa's digital community.
Cesar built up almost 600,000 followers on TikTok, over 100,000 on Instagram and thousands more on YouTube and Kick. His content has garnered over 22 million likes on TikTok alone, with recurring comedic characters like ‘Profe Alducin’ and ‘El Padre’ finding a fanbase.
Just two days before his death, Cesar Gastelum shared what would become his final Instagram post with his more than 108,000 followers. The video showed the influencer dressed in a black shirt and hat as he hugged and danced with fellow Sinaloan content creator La Beba, who appeared in a red dress holding a bouquet. He captioned the clip, "The real strawberry date," set to the song La Cita Fresita 2 by Luis R. Conriquez.
Meanwhile, Gastelum's profile on the streaming platform Kick, where he broadcast under the username @Compasexor, is no longer accessible following the fatal shooting.

Cesar Gastelum's final livestream captured chilling moments before the shooting
Gastelum was on a livestream with two of his buddies outside a KFC in Culiacán’s Tres Ríos district when the attack occurred late Tuesday night, August 3, 2026. The three were wearing delivery agent jackets and carried an orange Rappi delivery backpack.
Gastelum was wearing a white shirt with small print on it, the orange Rappi jacket, and an orange Rappi delivery backpack that he was carrying over his back as a prop for the social media livestream. He was also wearing a white sombrero, blue denim pants, a pair of white sneakers, and a branded watch.
In videos from the chilling final moments of circulating online, the three friends can be seen joking about when two helmeted men arrived on a motorcycle and approached the group. Moments before the shooting, Gastelum appeared visibly uneasy. Seconds later, one of the assailants allegedly opened fire at close range. The livestream abruptly ended as panic erupted around the scene. The assailants reportedly fled the scene by driving down the Enrique Sánchez Alonso Boulevard.
Soon after the incident, authorities from the Sinaloa State Prosecutor's Office, the Mexican Army, and state police secured the area and launched an investigation. It was only later that the slain victim was identified as Cesar. As of now, no arrests have been announced, and investigators have not publicly identified a motive behind the attack.
Cesar Gastelum's death raises alarming questions about ongoing violence in Sinaloa
Gastelum's death is the latest in a string of violent incidents linked to the ongoing conflict between rival criminal groups in Culiacán. However, it's important to note that authorities have not established any official connection between the influencer's online activity and the attack. The exact motive of the attack remains under investigation.
Gastelum's death has once again drawn comparisons to the 2025 killing of Mexican beauty influencer Valeria Márquez, who was fatally shot during a TikTok livestream in Jalisco. While both attacks unfolded during live broadcasts, officials have not indicated that the two cases are connected.
Local police and state security forces confirmed that neither of the two collaborators sustained injuries during the shooting, despite being right next to Gastelum when the gunmen opened fire. Fans have since flooded Cesar Gastelum's social media accounts with tributes.
As of now, no suspect has been identified or detained.
