Perez Hilton is back in the spotlight. In the late hours of August 4, 2026 (ET), police responded to his Miami home following a disturbing TikTok livestream that triggered several emergency calls. Amid concerns for his well-being, a video from months ago has resurfaced in which Hilton spoke of surviving a life-threatening health scare that he called a “spiritual awakening.”

The 48-year-old had appeared optimistic and reflective after recovering from a near-fatal medical emergency. This is what has made the recent incident all the more shocking for many of his followers.

Perez Hilton previously opened up about his near-death experience

Earlier this year, Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., revealed that he had spent 21 days in the hospital after a severe case of the flu spiraled into a life-threatening medical crisis. According to the blogger, he continued taking medication on an empty stomach, which led to a gastric ulcer that perforated his stomach.

In a video uploaded on March 23, 2026, Hilton said he had been battling a nasty flu for about a week. Perez said he brought the crisis on himself from “stupidity” because he always took his prescribed medication on an empty stomach. The medicine upset the digestive system and caused a gastric ulcer, which finally made a hole in the stomach. The infection spread through the hole in his stomach and caused life-threatening sepsis.

During the long hospital stay, he had several procedures, including laparoscopic surgery to find and repair the perforation, and to wash out the extensive infection from his organs. His heart rate went out of control, and fluid had to be drained from around his lungs. Hilton also developed a secondary infection while in the hospital and wasn’t able to eat solid food for more than two weeks. He only received nutrition through IV and a feeding tube.

Reflecting on the ordeal after returning home, Hilton described it as a transformative experience. In an Instagram video, the influencer expressed his gratitude that the medical emergency had been a "life-changing wake-up call," leading him to prioritize his health. He was determined to take better care of himself and not take his health for granted ever again.

Perez Hilton appeared optimistic about starting his new life in Miami

Just weeks before the alarming TikTok livestream, Perez Hilton shared an upbeat video marking his first day as a Miami resident after relocating with his three children and mother. In a candid video, he admitted he had stopped exercising, attending church, and reading the Bible because he felt consumed by the transition: "I was in a bit of a spiral because I was overwhelmed with our move to Miami." In his first video after relocating, he shared:

"Hello world. It is Perez, the queen of all media, the original influencer, and I'm back home. My children, mother, and I are now residents of Miami, Florida. And I have not lived here since I was 18 years old. I'm so excited for this new chapter in our lives."

Raising a toast to the future, he said, "To new beginnings," before quoting fellow Miami icon Gloria Estefan. He ended the video by thanking his followers for joining him and his family on this "journey called life." He can be heard saying:

"To new beginnings. And like my beloved Gloria Estefan says, Vamos abriendo puertas, cerrando heridas. Let's open doors and close wounds in every sense. To Miami, to new beginnings. I'm excited. I'm happy. I'm a little nervous. This is real. And to a lot more really good food. Thank you for joining me and us on this journey called life."

Hilton explained that he had since returned to the gym and resumed practicing his faith, believing both required discipline and consistency to maintain emotional wellbeing.

What happened during the TikTok livestream that alarmed the Miami authorities?

The recent health scare escalated during a TikTok livestream from Hilton's Miami home. Viewers were alarmed when he appeared to harm himself. The blogger kept yelling, "This is what you wanted," while slicing himself across his body. Graphic clips from the broadcast quickly spread across social media, prompting multiple viewers to contact emergency services.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office deputies immediately responded to Hilton's residence after receiving numerous reports. The officials confirmed that the influencer was alone inside. Hilton was later safely transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a local hospital, where he is receiving medical care.

Perez Hilton is a single father of three children. Neither his family nor representatives have yet commented on his condition.
