Who Is Tiger Woods' Ex-Wife, Elin Nordegren? Their Divorce Reason Revealed Amid His DUI, Car Crash

Tiger Woods is currently in the spotlight, not for his golf ventures, but for a personal controversy. Recently, on March 27, 2026, Tiger was involved in a rollover car crash on Jupiter Island, Florida. While no serious injuries were reported, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after showing signs of impairment and refusing a urinalysis test, despite his breathalyser reading of triple zeros for alcohol. The incident has brought a renewed interest in his ex-wife, Elin Nordegren. Here's everything we know about her and the reason for their split.

Who is Tiger Woods' ex-wife, Elin Nordegren?

Elin Nordegren is a Swedish-born mental health counsellor and former model. Born on January 1, 1980, in Stockholm, she is 46 years old as of March 2026. She belongs to a high-profile family; her mother, Barbro Holmberg, is a former migration minister, and her father, Thomas Nordegren, is a prominent radio journalist. Elin had a highly publicised divorce with Tiger Woods; however, she dealt with the heartbreak gracefully and came back stronger, completing her master's and becoming a registered mental health counsellor in Florida.

How did Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren's relationship start?

Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren first met in 2001 at the British Open. Their relationship began through a mutual connection to Swedish golfer, Jesper Parnevik, who had hired Elin to work as a nanny for his family. Jesper's wife, Mia Parnevik recalled that at that time, "there was a big line of single golfers wanting to meet her [Elin]. They were gaga over her." According to her, Tiger Woods was so nervous that he initially had a member of his team ask her out on his behalf. A friend of Tiger shared the incident in the 2021 HBO docuseries, Tiger. The friend also mentioned Erin didn't have good opinions about celebrities and stated:

"She had her opinions about celebrities, and they were not high. And she's very shy so the idea of joining that world was not appealing to her. And when he asked her out, I think she turned him down at first."

Erin was already in a relationship with someone in Sweden at that time and was wary of dating a high-profile celebrity. That is why she turned down Tiger Woods multiple times before finally accepting his offer for a single date, just to get him to stop asking. During the date, Erin was surprised to find that she actually liked him, noting that he felt like a "nice, normal guy" rather than a distant celebrity.

Why did Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren get divorced?

Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren divorced in August 2010 primarily due to his extensive extramarital infidelities, which were publicly exposed in November 2009. Reports of an affair between the golf star and a New York City nightclub hostess surfaced in a tabloid just before Thanksgiving. Shortly after, he crashed his SUV in the early morning hours following a domestic dispute with Elin Nordegren, who reportedly used a golf club to smash the vehicle's windows to "rescue" him. This version of the incident is contested, with many believing that Tiger smashed the windows to vent his anger on his then-wife.

Following the accident, more than a dozen women came forward claiming to have had affair with the golfer. In February 2010, Tiger Woods made a public apology, admitting he had been unfaithful and was seeking treatment for sex addiction. Elin, at that time, stated that she was "blindsided" by the extent of the affairs. Although Tiger took an indefinite break from golf to attempt to save the marriage, the couple eventually filed for divorce, citing that the relationship was "irretrievably broken." Following their split, Elin got remarried to ex-NFL player, Jordan Cameron while Tiger Woods is dating Vanessa Trump, Donald Trump Jr's ex-wife.
