Lucy Letby is a name that will give you goosebumps once you know the kind of horror and tragedy associated with the name. She is a former neonatal nurse who was convicted of mercilessly mu**ering seven infants and attempting to do the same to six more at the Countess of Chester Hospital in England.
Once described as a friendly and helpful person who often smiled and chatted with people turned into a cold-blooded mu**erer. A prolific name in the world of crime in modern British history, the details of her case have caused a major controversy.
Lucy Victoria Letby was born on January 4, 1990, in Hereford, Herefordshire, England. She is a 36-year-old British national who was the only child of John and Susan Letby. Talking about her studies, she was interested in science and biology and had a passion for animals. She was a bright and quiet student when she attended St. James’ Church of England Primary School and then the Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School.
Lucy went on to pursue a career in nursing and enrolled at the University of Chester in 2008. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 2011 and then completed her postgraduate studies in Neonatal Intensive Care in 2013. She was highly praised for her skills and her work as a nurse. Lucy had a shining professional dashboard, having been a part of several research projects, fundraising events and charity runs for the hospital she worked at.
Lucy had a good relationship and rapport with all the babies and parents in her care. Lucy put up a good façade of being the perfect nurse, but inside she was a cold-blooded mu**erer who deliberately harmed and k*lled the babies under her care. Lucy inflicted severe pain and death on the infants in various unimaginable ways. To hide her crimes, she removed confidential nursing handover sheets from her workplace and falsified patient records to avert suspicion. Lucy’s crimes were uncovered when the number of deaths increased significantly. Lucy was arrested for the first time in July 2018 and twice more before being charged in November 2020.

Lucy’s boyfriend, whose identity has not been revealed for security purposes, is now under investigation due to his links to Lucy’s heinous crimes. He is under investigation over suspicions of allegedly providing her with details of one of the babies she attempted to k*ll. He is married to someone else and 20-years-older to Letby, and is also charged with complying with Letby’s request to let her watch the surgeries he conducted on children.
The unnamed boyfriend was on duty when Letby took the lives of two triplets in June 2016, and in September 2016, he messaged her praises for being the ‘Best Neonatal Nurse’ according to reports by The Mirror. The couple exchanged over 1300 messages, which led the prosecution to label him as Lucy’s Boyfriend.
Lucy and her unnamed boyfriend are also supposed to have taken trips to London together and often dined out together. A note was discovered at Lucy’s flat which had his name on it with the words “I loved you, and I think you knew that… I wanted you to stand by me, but you didn’t.”

When another medic raised concerns after a baby fell ill, Letby sought reassurance from her supposed boyfriend. He messaged her saying: "No more doubt, it is not you, it is the babies." He added: "You are one of a few nurses in the region (I've worked pretty much everywhere) that I would trust with my own children."
However, both Letby and the doctor have denied claims of being in a relationship; the mother of the baby they supposedly may have k*lled together has filed a case against him of violating confidentiality by disclosing details about her child to Lucy. She stated:
"He discussed my son and passed on his condition whilst he was still on the [neonatal unit at Countess of Chester Hospital] and when he had been transferred to [the consultant's next hospital] due to her attack on him. There was no legal basis for him for breaching confidentiality; he also shared confidential emails, which were meant to be between consultants only, with her."
In his defence, the doctor has claimed that he was unaware of any growing suspicions towards her at the time, and admitted he felt “misled and maybe manipulated” by Letby to obtain information. Letby is currently serving her sentence in HMP Bronzefield, in Surrey, with 15 life sentences.
