Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is one of the most anticipated films of 2026. The film will follow the story of 'Hamza' after the demise of 'Rehman Dakait'. However, as we wait for the film to be released, the makers have announced some major changes in the upcoming sequel.
One of the biggest changes in the upcoming film is that, instead of Netflix, Dhurandhar 2 will stream on JioHotstar after its theatrical run. The film will also air on Star Gold on live TV. This has come as a major change post Dhurandhar's release on Netflix India. While the makers have not directly addressed the reason for the switch, many believe it is because a large number of users flagged issues with screen proportions, colour grading, and other technical problems on the streaming platform, which hampered the film's ideal viewing experience.

Another reason cited is that JioHotstar may have offered a higher price for the digital rights, given the historic theatrical response to the first film. Many also believe the switch could be because both JioHotstar and Star Gold fall under Jio Studios, the production house behind Dhurandhar. Additionally, releasing the film in the same ecosystem as Jio will give them better control over the digital release.

After the spectacular success of Dhurandhar, which earned Rs. 890 crore domestically and over Rs. 500 crore overseas, makers have higher hopes for the sequel. They have also expanded the film's availability by releasing it in five languages: Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. For the unversed, despite being released in just Hindi, the film's earnings remained in double digits for 28 consecutive days.

This time, the word is that the film will face tough competition at the box office, as it clashes with Geethu Mohandas' Toxic: A Fairy Tale, starring Yash. It'll also face fresh competition from Shaneil Deo's Dacoit: A Love Story, starring Adivi Sesh, on April 10, 2026 and Apoorva Lakhia's Battle of Galwan, starring Salman Khan, on April 17, 2026.
JioStudios has not only chosen a new streaming platform for Dhurandhar 2 but also a new music partner. The prequel music, composed by Shashwat Sachdev, was presented by Saregama, but the sequel's music will be presented by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series. The latter has one of the largest global YouTube footprints and is also instrumental in presenting some of the most memorable and successful albums of all time, most recently Border 2.
According to reports, T-Series paid a whopping Rs. 27 crore for the film's musical rights, given how widely and deeply the music of the first part impacted business and pop culture. Since the cost also includes promotional expenses, the makers of Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge have benefited from the deal. However, there is a disadvantage to their situation: the sequel may have to let go of its vast music catalogue, thanks to properties like Saregama Caravan. While T-Series does have a vast roster of old songs of its own, it’s not as extensive as Saregama.
