Who Is Marco Penge's Wife? Meet Sophie Lamb As PGA Tour Golfer Decides To Step Away For Heath Issues

Marco Penge is one of the most well-known professional golfers. However, he recently left his fans in complete shock after announcing he would be stepping back from the sport to focus on his health. Despite this, he is going to keep his PGA Tour status for the rest of 2026.

Additionally, as of now, it is believed that his break will be temporary. Amid the news, one person who will surely continue to support him is none other than his wife, Sophie Lamb. If you are curious to know more about her, we have got you covered.

If you think Marco Penge is the only golfer in the family, you are mistaken, as his wife, Sophie Lamb, has also experienced a successful career of her own. For those unaware, Sophie won the Fairhaven Trophy back-to-back in 2013 and 2014. Interestingly, Marco had also won the boys' tournament in both of those years. By February 2015, the pair were linked romantically, when they were still teenagers. Just a year after they became a couple, the couple went on to clinch the Sunningdale Foursomes title together.

It is worth noting that Marco and Sophie found success in their very first attempt at competing together despite having a really close call in the first round. Additionally, on the final day, Marco also had to fight a bout of food poisoning, but in the end, they managed to thump Lewis Atkinson and Scott Marshall 5&4 to win the prestigious title. While speaking to Sussex World alongside Sophie, he said:

“I have played in the Sunningdale foursomes twice before with different playing partners each time. I reached the semi-finals both times, so this year I was determined to make it third time lucky. They [Atkinson and Marshall] had hit a great shot into the green, and Sophie had hit our ball to the rough just off the green. I then chipped in, and it was game over; we were the champions.”

Marco Penge went on to say that he and Sophie really enjoyed the experience and couldn't wait to see their names on the champions board at Sunningdale. He said that they might be the youngest pairing to have won it. He added, “To win at an event like this at the age of 17 and 18 is a great achievement for both of us and something we will remember.”

Sophie Lamb also won the British Women's Stroke Play Championship that same year. Her amateur career continued to peak as Sophie later made an appearance at the 2017 Women's Open and the 2018 Curtis Cup. Sophie’s other achievements include winning the low amateur at the 2017 AIG Women's Open and taking second place at the 2018 English Amateur.

Following this, she went on to earn starts at the LET Access Series in 2019 while revealing her desire to make the Ladies European Tour, according to a 2020 interview. However, her first into the professional game lasted only 2 years, as in 2022 Sophie announced that she was retiring. A part of her statement, which she posted on Instagram, can be read as:

“I’ve been thinking for a while how to write this, and it’s hard to put it into words. I have decided I will no longer play golf professionally. Being a professional golfer was my dream as a little girl, and I’m so blessed to have been able to give it a go. The highs and lows are unexplainable. The highs are incredible, you feel so confident, everything feels easy, and it seems like the best place in the world to be…The lows are incredibly difficult. Sitting in hotel rooms, dwelling on your finish or performance, missing the cut to realise you won’t make any money that week, the feeling of being defined by a score, the feeling of only being known as a ‘golfer’, the feeling that you’ve let people down. The extremes are insane.”

For those unaware, Marco Penge had been battling health issues since catching a viral infection in November 2025. It has reportedly affected his ear, neck, and nervous system, including sinus infections and vertigo. Recently, Marco underwent an MRI scan of his brain, head, and neck, which thankfully came back clear. Still, he decided to take a break from golf, writing on Instagram:

“This week didn’t go the way I wanted it to, but that’s golf. Moving forward, I have decided that I am going to take some time off to get my health back to where it needs to be.”

Marco Penge made the announcement after he missed the cut at the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club. He had shot rounds of 75 and 77, and finished 12-over par and eight shots outside the cut line. It is worth mentioning that last week, he had already withdrawn from the Myrtle Beach Classic due to his ongoing health problems.
