Who Is Joel Bitonio's Wife? Meet Courtney, His College Sweetheart, As He Retires Post 12 NFL Seasons

Joel Bitonio is a well-known American professional football player. He has played in the NFL for twelve seasons. He was reportedly selected by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2014 NFL. 

At present, Joel Bitonio is hogging the spotlight for announcing his retirement after playing with the Browns for his entire professional career. Who is Joel Bitonio's wife, Courtney Bitonio?

Joel Bitonio's wife, Courtney Bitonio, was reportedly born on October 16, 1990. This makes her 35 years old as of June 2026. Although little is known about her, as she prefers to remain out of the spotlight, she is believed to be a sports enthusiast and philanthropist, in addition to being a successful wife and mother. Courtney grew up in Las Vegas, from where she graduated with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies. It is worth noting that this is the same university that her now-husband, Joel, studied at. Even though she is not much of an extroverted person, Courtney is a good friend to others.

With both of them having studied at the University of Nevada, it is natural that this is where Courtney and Joel Bitonio crossed paths for the first time. Reportedly, they were in their freshman year when they met each other. It was Courtney who made the first move on Joel when he was watching a Los Angeles Lakers match on television in the main lobby area of Argentina Hall. Recalling the incident, Courtney said:

“They had a TV downstairs that everyone could watch, and I saw this really cute guy watching basketball. I don’t what it was, but I just decided, ‘OK, I’m going to shoot my shot.’ So I tried to have a conversation with him, but he was … totally disinterested.”

However, contrary to what Country thought, Joel was actually not disinterested at all, although he did seem like it. He revealed in an interview that at the time the Lakers were playing for championships with Kobe Bryant, and as a huge fan of the basketball player, it was a big deal for him. He said:

“So I was watching the Lakers game on TV in the main lobby area, and Courtney and her friend walked by, and we talked, and I’m also trying to watch the game and concentrate on the Lakers, but in the back of my head …”

Courtney Bitonio and Joel Bitonio tied the knot in 2016

Courtney and Joel's first meeting was the spark of something special. Joel claimed that since he was just a young freshman, he did not know what it was all going to mean someday. However, Courtney later made it clear to him that she would not just walk up to anyone and start talking to a random person. Since they shared a common circle of friends at university, the duo got to know each other better and soon became friends with Joel, even claiming that she has been his best friend ever since. 

Eventually, their friendship turned into love, and after dating for a couple of years, Joel proposed to Courtney in 2015. The duo tied the knot one year later, in 2016, in a beautiful summer ceremony, surrounded by their close friends and family. Their wedding essentially marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives together. 

Courtney Bitonio shares two children with Joel Bitonio 

Being married for nearly 10 years, Joel and Courtney have welcomed three children together. According to reports, their first child, daughter, Zoey Grace, was born in 2019. Later, they expanded their family further by welcoming their second daughter, Ada and their son, Benjamin Michael. Joel has been pretty open about his experience with love, marriage, and his family. During an interview, the NFL star said:

“Throughout this journey, we’ve grown together. I told her, ‘I am going to marry you,’ but it’s a huge commitment when we were both still pretty young, for her to move across the country to be there with me. Courtney graduated a semester after me, and ever since it’s been great. I’m just so happy about all of that, how I chose Nevada, met Courtney, was able to play Division I football, and it’s worked out where we could start our family together.”

Courtney Bitonio is active in community and charitable work

Both Courtney and Joel are known for their community and charity work. Last year, in April 2025, the duo were elected to the Board of Directors of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. Their role here reflects their commitment to child welfare and family justice. Courtney and Joel have also been involved with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and A Kid Again Ohio. In April 2023, the couple had donated USD 1 million to their alma mater, the University of Nevada, to fund the Bitonio Family Strength & Conditioning Center.
