Michael George Vrabel is the head coach for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. A former linebacker, Vrabel previously played in the NFL for 14 seasons. Not just this, he also served as the head coach of the Tennessee Titans from 2018 to 2023. He was also named NFL Coach of the Year in 2021 after helping the Titans obtain their conference's top seed. 

Vrabel was named head coach of the Patriots in 2025, replacing Jerod Mayo. Amid his professional feats stands a woman who believes in his true potential, and it is none other than his wife, Jen Vrabel. Mike Vrabel’s wife, Jen Vrabel, too, has been an athlete

Mike and Jen attended Ohio State University, but didn’t earn their degrees at the same time. She graduated in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene, and he earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science in 2004. Jen was also an athlete, while Mike played football, she was in the volleyball team. Regarding her achievements as an athlete, Jen was a two-time AVCA All-District selection and a two-time All-Big Ten and Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Mike Vrabel and Jen Vrabel have been together since college

Mike and Jen Vrabel were college sweethearts when they met at Ohio State University. Jen first noticed Mike during a management class. She recalled noticing him sitting in the frontseat and talking to other students continuously. Since she found him funny, Jen made the first move and took his number from one of their professors. She connected with him, and the rest is history.

After dating for many years, Mike and Ken married in 1999 and celebrated 25 years of togetherness in 2024. They share two sons: Tyler Vrabel, born in June 2000, and Carter Michael Vrabel, born in November 2001. Jen worked as a dental hygienist in Columbus, Ohio, initially, while Mike spent time in Pittsburgh due to his busy NFL schedule.

Mike Vrabel missed his son’s birth

Mike first signed with the Patriots before the 2001 season and had been on the field. So much so that he had to miss his son, Carter’s birth. In a 2018 interview, he spoke about the same and revealed:

“I'm not proud to say this, but I'm just going to tell you about my wife. She gave birth to Carter, I missed it, I was at practice, she was in Ohio. He came early, he flipped, they had to take her. I showed up four hours late because I was playing football and she was having a baby.”

Mike Vrabel and Jen Vrabel’s sons followed their parents’ athletic footsteps

Being the children of one of the best coaches means Tyler and Carter grew up surrounded by football. He once stated that his sons ‘have been around the NFL locker room since they've been born’. And then both the children followed their parents' footsteps. Tyler played college football at Boston College and later joined the Atlanta Falcons as an offensive tackle in 2022. Carter’s passion was baseball.

Jen Vrabel has been a constant support for Mike Vrabel

Mike has often credited his wife with her immense support. In a press conference introducing him as the Tennessee Titans’ head coach in 2018, Mike spoke about Jen’s contribution in his career and said:

“I love her to death. She's been through a lot, and she understands this league. I want to thank Jen, who's been along for this ride for quite a while.”
