Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleWill Smith's former friend, Bilaal Salaam, has once again made headlines after he asked the court to direct the actor to testify against his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. The request has been made at a time when Bilaal is pursuing legal action over his allegations that Jada threatened him during the actor's birthday.
All about Will Smith's former pal, Bilaal Salaam

Bilaal Salaam, better known as Brother Bilaal, is a filmmaker. He claims to be a former associate of Will Smith. Bilaal had publicly claimed that he had been close friends with the actor for more than four decades. In turn, he calls himself Will Smith's "best friend for nearly 40 years."
But eventually the friendship turned sour when Bilaal made public allegations against the actor's family. Initially, he filed a lawsuit against Jada Pinkett Smith in late 2025. In turn, he accused her of intentional influence of emotional distress and claimed that she verbally threatened him and intimidated him in September 2021.
According to Salaam, the incident happened at the actor's 53rd birthday celebration. For those unaware, it was at Regency Calabasas Commons in California. He claims that Jada cornerned him with many other people and warned him that if he continued to discuss her personal life, he would end up "missing or catching a bullet." Bilaal also claims that she also demanded him to sign an NDA.
However, Jada Pinkett has refused these allegations. Earlier this year, she mentioned that these claims are false. In fact, she called it as a part of an ongoing campaign to harass her family.
What is the current legal dispute?

The latest development comes after Bilaal Salaam sent an email requesting that Will be present for a deposition. The filmmaker believes that the actor knows relevant details to the case. In turn, he wants him to directly testify amid the ongoing litigation.
Meanwhile, Jada's legal team rejected the request, arguing that Will is not a party to the lawsuit. In fact, they stated that he did not get a formal subpoena for it. So, the attorney stated that Bilaal must follow the proper legal procedure if he wants to get testimony from a non-party witness.
The actress's lawyers have also argued that Bilaal had not given adequate evidence to support his claim. So, they have asked the court to require him to give medical records that would support his claims of emotional distress.
At the same time, Bilaal alleges that he faced emotional harm after he refused to help with crisis management following Will's infamous 2022 Oscars incident involving Chris Rock. He mentioned that it damaged his business and reputation.
Until now, the lawsuit has been ongoing, with many legal issues awaiting resolution. Although Bilaal has requested that the matter be taken ahead to trial, the request is denied. At the same time, the next hearing is set for August 2025, when both parties are expected to appear in the court.
